if you rip off (destroy) a grip on our nytro bar, your notice that the heating element is a circuit "film" taped directly to the bar, then the grip glued on top of it.
so when the grip gets hot ,the heat basically is drawn down from the cold metal bar.
a yamaha dealer told me that by putting insulation between the circuit film and the bar(2010 fix) every thing else is the same.
hence is why im going the insulate the bar from (outside wind blast) with rubber tape ,and spray foam the inside of the bar trick.
whoknows if it will help but its worth a try.
it should work!!!!!

since when did the nytro come with heated grips??????????
Really like the idea of the spray foam insulation within the bars. . . .simple. . . .effective. . . .perfect will get that done before the snow fly's this season. . . .
I also found that the heaters did work a bit better with the handgaurds removed and the heat setting between 1/2 and full on.
Not sure the reason behind the handgaurd removal improvement (pinched wire, gaurd mounts acting as a heatsink?) But after one of the local dealers here told me if there wasn't enough wattage to run the warmers at the requested level - they wouldn't run at all
They responded further by saying you should try not to have the cooling fan, headlights, brakelight or any other acc in operation while trying to use the warmers. Ummm - like I have alot control over the headlight, brakelight and fan - WTF
Perhaps as it's been said already so many times - this should have been something taken into account when they designed the electrical system. Simple planning - add up your total loads within the system - be sure that your availible power output can properly support the total. . . . .
Anyway - I'm off the soapbox - time for a beer!!!

My warmers kinda suck. But I bought rock's Handwarmer controller, "yamaheater"...so I'm hoping this winter I'll have nice warm hands! and hopefully not burn any holes in my gloves with the exhaust...again.

Yamaha handwarmers suck big time. The easist way to find this out is to swap sleds with someone riding another brand.
Hey guys - I just completed injecting the spray foam within the bar's tonight - here's a couple of things I did that paid HUGE dividends already
1.) draped the entire front 1/2 of the sled with a drop cloth - exposing only the bars
2.) Used Great Stuff spray foam for windows and doors
3.) Injected from just one side until the air stopped and foam continually was coming out the other side of the bars
The drop cloth proved to be critical as this is REALLY sticky stuff and using this method alot of product comes out both ends. However it should assure that all of the voids are full.
The window and door variety of this product stays flexible and therefore shouldn't break apart when the bars are gettin' reefed on.
Anyway - the cold temps this season will be the test - but it's just got to be an improvement.

warmer xtx
I have a 2009 xtx and the warmers suck!! I have owned srx's and a viper, these sleds had great warmers always had warm hands. the xtx warmers hardly get warm, Yamaha took a step back on this one.

Re: warmer xtx
Your factory grips work fine.
The problem is they don't get enough power to get and keep them warm.
Once they have the right power, they get nice & hot.
Almost as hot as the SRX/Vipers of the past.
A number have expressed interest in foaming the bars.
That is an old wives tale that won't die... lol
For insulation to have a benefit, it has to insulate against two heat differences.
That's what your gloves do, they insulate against the colder outside air.
Foaming does have a slight benefit in two ways.
It will slightly reduce vibration in your bars.
It will help reduce the heat losses caused by air movement with-in the bars. (This is a very small effect.)
(I know, many of you believe it works, and it will by definition, because you believe it does.)
A major grip manufacturer did tests on this and found a very slight improvement (Less than 1%), not enough to actually feel a difference.
(They were looking at making bars with foam already in them, but since it didn't help, they would be marketing a lie if they did market them.)
For such a negligible benefit, is it worth risking making a mess of your sled?
Plugging the small holes in the ends of the bars will have pretty much the same benefit & won't risk making a mess.
If you are tired of freezing fingers and want them truly Warm, contact me & will get you taken care of. www.yamaheater.com
If you would rather complain... Ummmm... probably can't help ya... lol

What!?
Foaming the bars won't help? I didn't need three semesters of heat transfer and thermodynamics to figure that one out.
Thanks for putting a fork in this idea. It's done.

Talk to Rock or go to yamaheater.com and get a yamaheater. i installed mine and partners last weekend. We couldn't stop and still haven't stopped saying "Warm Hands" since! I was riding around after we installed it with no gloves in 35 degree temps and still saying "Warm Hands" LOL. Plus I did notice the thumb heater was warmer. I never rode that sled more then 50 ft without gloves before. brrrrrr. Best 175 I've spent in awhile and go for the plug and play. J Rod
