THE MPI GEMS FUEL CONTROLLER WILL BURN DOWN YOUR SLED!!!

If you are over 5 lbs boost , 25/29 pulleys , upgraded fuel system ,
cruise at 5000 / 6500 rpm .

The GEMS controller only will switch on after 2.0 lbs of boost.

Before that happens you will see 14/ 16 a/f ratios and will take out a cyl.

DONT RUN THERE , STAY OUT OF THAT A/F AREA UNTIL MPI HAS A FIX.

I think the Gems should take over sooner at # 1 lbs of boost.

3 CONFIRMED BROKEN MOTORS 2010 / 02/ 08 IN ONTARIO

2 more with excess blow by . Going to do leak downs

That sucks dude.... It just seems MPI still does not have this figured out for the flat landers yet....

What were your settings and how long did you run it at those lean of numbers? 2 pounds of boost is not much it seems somewhat hard to beleive it would just meltdown in a few seconds at that boost level and AFR. While testing many have had lean conditions like that at much higher boost levels and not blown the motor.

Also my "blue light" comes on long before 2 pounds of boost is seen on my gauge.

Are these being setup or installed by the same person? 2.5 seasons of SC's and I have not seen claims like this before.

Edited to add: What were the GEMS setting at?

ALL the failures are the same , block not hurt , pistons deto on intake side at top , some pitting from deto on head.
Oil coming various amounts out the breather tube.

One has damaged block and head, burned between 2 cyls.

Damage caused from long slow combustion heat while crusing in midrange. a/f 15-16

Rings o heat , fail , light deto on pistons

Gems shows blue light on when any boost is seen in the small blue hose , but will not add fuel until switch piont (preprogramed at 2 lbs ) , is achieved.

Don't assume it is adding fuel anytime the blue light it on !!!! Confirmed by Dobeck (mfg of Gems)

What were the GEMS settings?

Have you asked MPI when boost fuel is added? I don't beleive it is set by dobeck I beleive it is set by the program MPI puts in it. If I person was seeing those kind of numbers he should investigate why and not continue to run it. It seems to me that at low boost and lean it would take quite a while to hurt the motor. I have seen many run much higher boost at high loads for short periods and not lose a motor.

Not blaming, nor flaming, just trying to sort it out.

If running below 6 lbs , not to much midrange running , they will live ok. But stay out of that area until more fuel is available.
After the Gems switchs on lots of fuel is available.

Think of the engine b4 Gems switchs on , 2 lbs of boost on stock fuel ( way lean a/f 15-16+ ) , 70-90 km 5-6500 rpm.

As of now the Gems can't do it !

After speaking to Mac at MPI , the box is on but has not been programed to add enough fuel down so low. The 2 lbs change is where the fuel was programed to ramp up, thus the 3 reds , and lots of fuel is available.

Again, can you please share your GEMS settings?

Not all fuel delivered by the GEMS is dictated by boost. It does infact add fuel without boost.

I knew this in 08, and they still haven't fixed it? BS!

I don't know where you are boost referencing the controller but if you referecne off the intercooler you will have a little easier time tuning it as there is always more pressure in the I/C then the TB.

SPRAY , CALL MATT AT DOBECK.

I did and that is why I posted the info !

Do this test to prove my point !

Have your sled idle , blue lite is on.
Increase all , green , yellow , red to ### 8

It will run the same , until 2 lbs then flood all over the place. Try it !!!

Glen is the boost line on the TB or the IC?
