I was at the Toronto Snowmobile show and they had a demo of the 2 oils.
They had both oils in seperate cups on dry ice with a paint stir stick in the oil.......results
the amsoil, was nice and and fell of the stick like normal oil....
the Yamalube was the worst of the 6 brands.....the oil was think like tar, all clumped up, reminded me of Honey that was left in the fridge....
This test made a beiliver out of me...

If you head over to the two smoke side and post this question, I'm sure that gary (nosboy) will chime in and give you a little lesson on oil. He know his chit about oil.

This just the exact oposite to what hapeened with my 03 rx1. Up to 2100 miles with yamalube 5-30, it did'nt burn anymore than it was suppose to (1 for every 900 or so miles). The amsoil changed that to a quart every 200 miles.
The next 03 rx1 I bought had a turbo on it and already had 9000 miles on it when I got it, it had used yamalube from day 1, and it was a 900 mile or so to a quart and never got any worst and now the sled has over 16000 miles with the new ouner and has'nt got any worst.
So with my apex and 2 seasons and nearly 6000 miles with 0-30 yamalube and not burning a total of my a quart and a half between the oil changes.
I don't feel from my experiances with the 3 sleds I will switch.

I wouldnt trust Amsoil to be honest in that demonstration. Think about it, they want you to buy their oil.
Ive used Amsoil in the past and wouldnt use it again. I ran it in a '99 Ford Ranger that I used to own. I did just like Amsoil said, run it 6 months/6,000 miles, change the oil filter and add a quart, then run it another 6 months/6,000 miles and do an oilchange.
Long story short, after the 12,000 miles was up I drained the oil and found that my truck was 1 quart low (the truck had less than 20,000 miles on it at the time and never burnt a drop of oil). I also started to detect a slight tick at idle.
My father and brother also used Amsoil in their trucks and had the exact same result. None of our trucks burnt or leaked oil, so it is my belief that Amsoil breaks down and vaporizes.
If I cant trust it in a truck that spends most of its life running below 3,000 rpm, I would never trust it in a snowmobile that runs anywhere from 6,000-10,000 rpm.
Im not saying that Yamalube is the end-all, be-all oil, but I also wouldnt trust Amsoil's smoke 'n mirrors ad campaign.
I used Yamalube 4-R 10w-40 in my '06 YFZ 450 SE and my '06 YZ 250F SE. I ran those 2 machines at their limits on motocross tracks and ice racing in temps ranging from 100 in the summer to -20 in the winter and never had a problem with either of them. They never used oil, never smoked and never broke down on me.

Beat me to the post....amsoil is a demonstrated product which compares against something with the attempt to exploit the weaknesses of it..
personally once a motor is broke in (4 stroke) I'd think the oem oil or mobil one cause if it's good enough for some of the highest performance motors in the world it'd work for me..

amsoil
i have own a auto business for 28 years now and used amsoil for at least 12 years with no problems and i have had no customers complaints yet just have to check your oil every now and t hen when using extened oil change oils.remember when you use regular oil you change at 3000 miles so does not have a chance to use oil in that short period of a time.

Dry ice is readily available and this test could be easily duplicated. Any takers on a science project? I would like to see someone who is independent run this test and include mobile 1, royal purple and walmarts & canadian tires 100% synthetic same grade of oil and viscosity on the same dry ice.

Why does your Apex use any oil? I have 4500 miles on My Apex and it never ever has used any oil at all.

amsoil
i have been using amsoil for 25 yrs on 2 stokers we would run 125 to 1 never had any problems, i like the long intervals between changing on my trucks i have 140,000 on 2003 pick up runs like a top, if you don't feel
good about running there oil then i sure wouldn't use it, but they have become a huge company in the u.s. if there oil wasn't safe to use i don't
think that could be.

I dont think anyone is knocking amsoil, it;s just they knock in their demo's and I personally think it's smoke and mirrors...
there's lots of 140k trucks out there that have run many different oils..
by the way...I've ran amsoil race 2 stroke in my big bore ...and later switched to klotz...hate to say it...but who the heck knows.
i think in a stroke the base is what matters most
