This is my brothers sled. He would start it during the summer with no problems until one day no start/no power. He thought dead battery so tried to jump it. Nothing. I've been trying to help him get it started by doing all the tips from this forum. New battery fully charged, all ground blocks spliced and soldered together. Harness checked for rub threw. All fuses good. Starter relay is good. Kill switch on. Unplugged kill switch and jumped wires. Swapped ignition switch. Nothing! Jumped starter relay and starter will engage. Can a bad stator be the cause? Any help is welcomed. Thanks

I would be looking for possible rodent damage, chewed wiring.

Stator should have nothing to do with the starting circuit. I would start testing from the battery to the starter to make sure you have voltage everywhere you should

Thanks for replies. Any more suggestions welcome. Will update when I get another chance to work on sled. Merry Christmas

Keep it simple & basic at first. Do you have a meter & understand basics of how to use it?
Remember the ECU will ground systems to complete circuit so just because you have Voltage does NOT mean circuit is made if measuring to ground.
You can do a lot without diagram, but then you'll need one after initial steps.
I can go check the diagram later today & walk you through some steps.
The battery supplies the Current to spin the motor via the starter so the Stator does not matter yet.
You said you replaced relay & fuses are good so let's work from there. Also assuming you looked for frayed or bad grounds. There could be a hidden bad ground and that we'll have to find through troubleshooting.
First do these steps while turning key & everything on:
1. Is there Voltage to starter?
-----yes=bad starter
-----no=go to step 2
2. Is Starter relay "in" or activated?
-----yes=go to step 3
-----no=troubleshoot what pulls in relay (we'll need diagram for this) (switches & outputs from ECU) (if no outputs we'll troubleshoot inputs)
3. Is there Voltage coming in to relay? (not to power the relay, but the starter Voltage)
-----yes=wiring from relay to starter
-----no=check diagram to see how to get Voltage from battery to starter relay (we'll need diagram for this) (not much there)
Write down these results & we'll work from there

Thanks Steve, sled it at my brothers so I don't have access to it now. He has three other sleds to ride so this not a rush job. I only have a harbor freight meter and very little knowledge of how to use it. I will start with things you've suggested and let you know results. ThanksKeep it simple & basic at first. Does the cluster light up? My cluster would not even light up and no clicking of relays or cranking. When I wiggled on the white 4 pin ignition switch connector it worked normally. Squeezed the female connectors a bit and filled the connector with di-electric grease now all good!

Nice, and no the cluster won’t light up unless the sled is running

Im struggling to get my sled to show any signs of life. Battery is fine (12v), just installed new starter relay, new plugs and the two grounds by the clutch have been soldered together. All fuses appear to be good in the ECU and so is the 40amp green one. I just hooked up a multimeter from battery to starter relay and starter relay to starter. It showed voltage….does that mean I need a new starter? I’m kinda stumped on my next move. I keep reading all these threads trying to put the pieces together
Did you check to see if you got the correct relay? Vector and Apex relay look exactly the same but are setup differently.
A good way to test the starter is to jump from the battery to the starter itself. No crank would mean the starter is toast.

I would hope Yamaha gave me the right one since they know my sled and i gave the part numberDid you check to see if you got the correct relay? Vector and Apex relay look exactly the same but are setup differently.

existing relay shows 7803 and the new relay is 2708….hmmm

Yup. Sure look the same.
The difference between the Vector and Apex is where this terminal is located.

Sorry @steiner i don’t understand. The relay was already installed and hooked up. Wouldn’t the starter crank if it was good?Jump these terminals together

I thought I just take the battery and jumper cables and hook right up to starter with positives and listen for a crank? At least that’s what google says…I’m confused.
here’s a pic of where im at. I appreciate your input thanks a lot
