Wife rammed into the back of my sled doing about 5 mph. Bent the hokey little front bumper pretty good. What a joke.

Anybody found something a little beefier or come up with an easy fix?

Yamaha makes one in their accesories thats the GYTR bumper in different colors its a little beefier. I have a Skinz Protective gear Bumper and its nice too Havent hit anything with it yet... but i think it would be better than stock.

156 I think for the yamaha one
139 for the skinz

I have the old skinz which isn't as beefy as the new one and it took a pretty good hit on a tree it bent up but saved everything else.

I have the Skinz one too. Very well built. I also like the "bullhorns" on it. I use them when pulling the sled plus it allows 2 people - I per side- to pull if necessary.

In Canada the Skinz bumper was much cheaper than the Yamaha one. The Skinz was $130 at Royal Dist.

yeah I LOVE my skinz bumper but the covers a tight fit... They are SUPER busy right now btw if you plan on buying one find a skinz dealer with one IN STOCK and uhm its really a nice piece

I was at a sled/swap meet and picked up a like new "takeoff" for $5, had it powdercoated @ work.
Cheap & easy enough for me to replace but it does look like it won't take much abuse.

I'd say the bumper did it job, even a "5mph" hit is quite a bit of force and I'd be glad the bumper bent instead of the subframe. Everyone wants a "lighter" snowmobile then complains when something bends at 5mph. Just be glad the whole sled isn't as weak as the bumper, like an XP.

I agree. My GYTR bumper got bent up when I hit a deer but it worked.I like how they are much wider for the protection of the shock ressies and like said gives room to lift good.

I hit a tree at about 5mph (couldn't quite stop) and dinged the subframe slightly. Stock bumber didnt seem to do anything. The little ding in the sub frame is really bothering me so will be replacing it when I do my next oil change. Anybody interested in my dinged one for a good price? No damage to strength or suspension mounts, just minor appearance.

i got the gytr bumper from my kid for xmas, that was the best present ever lol

i can attest to it bashing trees over for traction purposes only

You could give the Venture Multi-Purpose bumper a try. It is beefier and wider to protect the front suspension better. Part no. 8GR-77511-00 . If you want to see what it looks like, go here and look up any of the MP models. http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/partscatalogue/?group=S
The piece of plastic it normally has (no.14) is seperate and not mandatory. I saw another TY member's Phazer pic with one of these and it actually looked pretty good.

BTW, the MP is a Canada/Europe only model and that part no. may not be available from the US but you can always try ordering it.

Me too, got it two years ago for $125 and now I see it is 120. Good price at Royal Dist. I am please with it on my VL. Haven't hit anything but it looks meaner now ahah!
