Apex/Attak Clutch Survey

Proline IMO rocks...Any kit that utilizes the ultimate artwork of DALTON clutch parts is TOPS in my eyes..

havent been touched by any apex to date...not even close....runs toe to toe with several of the locals fastest machs....and RADARS amazing too for top end....

I wish someone had an Ulmer kit here so I could run him...this year my sled has given me some serious confidence out of the hole and ontop...

even lightly studded with 96 studs and a 1 inch sneaker she pulls with the best machs outa the hole....Im loving that cause Im a EX machz guy of 15 yrs.

We have setup many sleds here with Dalton parts(similar to PL kit) and wow, they all rock.

Dan

I'm running a similar setup and wonder what you have done to get it to come out of the hole better. My RTX with proline kit, 144 studs, windage plates, cr10ek plugs, and hygear rear shock upgrade does not come out of the hole well. I'm 200lbs, transfer set 1 notch toward min. from the middle. What else besides moving the transfer rod will help. I really don't want to add more studs.

You wont like the answer, but ADD MORE STUDS. That kit hits hard out of the hole, and if you dont hook it up, it will overshift causing your Rs to drop. Traction is vital with the Proline kit...BBY

With the testing being done with gearing and clutches, I am curious what i should do with the gearing (and or clutch) for my 07 RTX. I would like to beat my riding group buddies by a little more than I am in our 800 or so feet races. I think my stock gear on the RTX is 22? What would you suggest going up to a 23? leave it a 22? Are the 07RTX clutches the same as the rest of the Apexs?

That's exactly what happended to me when I had in mine..... Blows the track out and everyone is just pulls away at the start. Race a stocker and you will be surprised at the outcome unless you have 192 or more studs, that kit works like #*$&@ out of the hole. Mid range, it pulls good....

All I know is that without the gear change, I feel none of the "Clutch kits" have much over a stocker, if anything, than a stocker with just a gear change. The gear does a hell of alot. This is in good hard packed conditions with minimal studs 96-144.....

Agree 100%

I never engaged my sled that low with the Clutch packages I used except the the stock stuff. That's probably why I never experienced the lean bog.

If your going to change the clutching to be more aggressive out of the hole , you must have excellent traction. Otherwise your wasting your time. If you don't want to add studs i suggest you call proline and ask for a Primary spring with less Pre-load but he same total force. this will lower the engagement and make you come out better.

Or call Dalton and just get the Red Primary Spring. I believe the engagement is close to stock.. 4100?

Try this
Stock clutching; raise engagement if you are running studs by using a different primary spring(more preload; same total force)
With an unstudded sled stock clutching & richen up the low end with either the paper clip method; fuel enrichener(boondocker or hauck/dobek) or I can,t wait to see SRX specs new efi; timing all in one adjuster. Might be surprised by the outcome!!!!

Would this stage 2 kit work for a 136 1.5" track w/out studs or would it have issues also?

It feels good as it is on hard pack and pretty decent on loos snow but we all know on ice there is no chance. It would be more for an off trail trail setup.

Yes it would work. he ulmer setup has a nice low engagement.

I can't see that helping much without studs? That's the problem with Proline's kit, it come in to hard. With a 150hp it's hard not to break the track free with the stock engagement let alone a higher one with no studs to boot.

Would you suggest studding the outside belts of the track? Did this to my viper and had to be very careful not to tear them out. I like the idea of the lower engagement. I'm pulling 11,000 rpm's out of the hole and seem's to hold it all the way through. Going to add a little tip weight to try and get it back to 10,800. Would addition wheels help traction or just help reduce hyfax wear?

How long of a stud are you running??
