dyno math
Hi rocket just want to say THANKS for your time,as i am sure it is as valued as mine and everyone elses,great to see guys like yourself and all the racers out there that have contributed to some very valuable info for all us who dont have either the test facility or the equiptment,sounds like your dyno works very well as soon as you have some more time keep us posted as i love reading real live feed back again thanks rocket.. You could pull that freight train a lot faster with a 100000 hp engine that makes 0.1 footpounds of torque.... AND you could get it up to the same speed a lot faster.
No no..you would never be able to reach the required e/g rpm's to make 100000hp and .1ft.lbs torque, therefore the freight train would never move.

GEAR that .1 footpound engine down 10 million to 1 and you will get A MILLION footpounds of torque.

LB and others your are great!! I love to think and read about the physics of how these incredible machines work.
THe more I understand the more fun it is to ride and even watch a race / radar run / snow cross.
What I love is to see a kid who couldn't answer a physic's question about rotational forces and gyroscopic issues for his life. BUT he can come of that kicker on the top of the Spirit Mountain ( Duluth MN first snocross race of the WSA) front stretch, feather the throttle and brake and land with the sled in the perfect attitude to accelerate away from the competition. Now I could with some review calculate the answers but I don't think I could ever ride like that.
Thanks LB and others

LMFAO
You just don't get it, do you?
The funny part is where you change an equation and solve for torque!!

Here's a simple math lesson, it might help to clarify what I've said before;
if a * b = c * d,
then a = (c * d) / b
and a / d = c / b
That means that;
if torque = power * 5252 / rpm
then torque * rpm = power * 5252
torque * rpm / 5252 = power
power = torque * rpm / 5252
THEY WORK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, THATS WHY THEY CALL THEM "EQUATIONS" as in BOTH SIDES ARE EQUAL!
AS long as you do the same thing to both sides, they will always remain in balance and the equation is correct.
More detailed explanation:
torque = power * 5252 / rpm
MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES BY RPM:
torque * rpm = power * 5252 * rpm / rpm
rpm / rpm = 1, so we can discard it.
torque * rpm = power * 5252
DIVIDE BOTH SIDES BY 5252
torque * rpm / 5252 = power * 5252 / 5252
5252 / 5252 = 1, so we can discard it.
torque * rpm / 5252 = power
THE EQUATION IS BALANCED.
Any further questions, please discuss with me in private.

This is not controversy. He just flunked out of grade 3 and doesn't know any better. j/k Viper is a good sport and a near match for me

Of course they work in both directions, that is not the arguing point..you must have the torque number!!! From there on, it is just simple math. When you start a post solving for torque, that is immediate sign your going to play mathematical games, far from genius (3rd grade math)

Actually I felt you were insulting everyones intelligence by passing off this simple math.
My point was, you cannot measure power, therefore you cannot solve for torque. If you have torque you can solve for power and if you have power and torque you can re-arrange the equation to play around, however that is far from useful information.

If you think that, then you don't have any basic understanding of math at all. Power is a number you calculate. Once you know it, you can use it in other calculations later on to go back to torque ITS NOT A TRICK, its the way it works! And further, I have PROVEN it by the fact that I was able to arrive at the same final driveshaft torque numbers by calculating using POWER, as well as by just multiplying the engine torque by the reduction ratio. Go back to the first page of this thread and read it over again! And keep on reading it until you understand it.
So far all you've said is... that you don't believe me, therefore it must be a trick. If it IS a trick, then I challenge you to PROVE it. That means mathematically.
If you CAN'T prove it (I can assure you, it is impossible to correctly prove that truth is a lie), then I would suggest you query Dr. Math: http://mathforum.org/dr.math/ or another PROFESSIONAL MATHEMATICIAN.
