HP is only needed so we know where to operate the motor. Torque is the measured load and as Sasquatch said HP is simple math. The only thing HP means is it's a report of what the power is doing at a given RPM. I talked to Dynotech Jim earlier last winter because he was going to be dynoing the Nytro that I had Full Power Performance build for me. I would have loved to have an afternoon to just ask questions but I know he is a buisy guy so I stuck to the sled at hand. All Apex's are dynoed using crank RPM but power is measured from the out put shaft. Rpm of the out put shaft is in a way irrelevant and not required to measure load, think of a torque wrench on a nut, not rotating but giving you a load number (torque). Bottom line is you can have torque with out RPM but with out RPM you can not have a HP # and your going nowhere!
Torque # between the Apex and Nytro are close with the Nytro having a little more power at lower RPM but at WOT clutch shift RPM Apex has a little more. Nytro is a little lighter! In my opinion the biggest reason an Apex beats a Nytro (mainly on top end) is chasis efficiency!

You are right about the RPM.... However, in stock for stock hp, there is a difference between the 2 of about 15hp ann alot more rpm comming from the Apex. That is why it beats it.

If the Apex was making 83 lb/ft of torque at 10800 clutch speed there would huge centrifugal advantage but it's not, clutch speed is very close with power very close with the power edge to the Apex by only a couple lb/ft at WOT and the Apex weighs more. You can argue all you want about which sled is quicker but they are very close to 660'! Give me a motor that will hold power at a higher RPM (showing more HP) and that's your winner. Huge picture here But the clutch RPM generating the centrifugal force on an Apex is near the same as a Nytro!

Apex wins past 660' in my opinion due to chasis efficiency.

The above post , needs a slight edit !Every dyno sheet on DTR shows the apex with max tq of low 80s. I'm more interested in that than anyone's math equations. The Nytro makes more tq than the Nytro and its apparent when they drag race.

At peak hp clutch rpm 8700 torque is 90 and hp is 148.5 for the Apex. Nytro same Dyno at 8100 rpm is 83.7 and 129 hp. While I will agree torque is only 6 less hp is 20 less and why the Nytro is quick in the 18 mile. Any Nytro or Vector I have raced will stay with me to 75 mph after that they quickly fade back.
The trail hit though is more by 12 pds and from 6,600 to 8700 the Apex is making 15 more hp and on up 20 more from there. You can feel that!

Isnt it kind of irrelevant to see the full dyno chart? Its a cvt, not like it pulls rpms through gears. It should always be in the sweet spot of the powerband once you hit it.
That's why some sleds are quicker/faster then others...

Sigh not you too. Try and do the math at 8700 clutch speed (max engine hp at 10700) and if the torque is only 72.9 the hp is 120. I know the Apex has more then 120 hp. If the torque is 72.9 at 10700 and you slow the clutch down to 8700 with a 1.23 gear reducer the torque must be 90 or the hp can't be 148. Same as 83.5 torque at 8500 engine speed the clutch speed is 6900, hp would be 109 instead of 135. Its simple math!
The torque was adjusted less the gear reducer ratio to give hp at 10700. In other words the whole entire dyno run was done with a 1.23 formula plugged in to show engine torque at any given engine rpm. They are not going to mix clutch and engine results together its either one or the other. If you look at the dyno chart on the first page you see torque and hp where done at clutch speed not engine speed. The dyno chart you refer to was done at engine speed, torque must be multiplied by 1.23 to be accurate at the clutch.
This was talked about way back in 2003 when the first gear reduced motor came out, this may be confusing but its how it was done. Math does not lie!

I agree quick is the off line throttle response and on trial throttle response, fast is the peak hp. So I have been told.
