If you want to dominate, this is what I would do......
Put a 1"hacksaw with 168 1.325 Woody'e megabytes. (stud 120 down the middle and the rest on the outside belt) Put the Yamaha White Secondary spring in @60 degrees, with a 40 bottom gear in and set the control rod to max and hold the F^**)) on..... If you really want a clutch kit, use Fix Powersports or Prolines kit or Ulmer...... I believe just white spring will be alot with that much traction.

I have a 1 inch hacksaw with 192 1.450 woody megabites and transfer rod at max.

Sled Freak, can you explain 60 degrees? I know there is a hole that both ends of the sec spring go in. Do you mean set the spring at 6-0? What side of the spring is always spec'd first for settings? The helix end or the clutch sheave end? Thanks, rr.

the degrees are the total of the holes added together...
IE:
3 & 3 =60
9 & 1 = 100
6 & 1 = 70
Just add together the two numbers you used to get degree...
so use 3,3 for 60.
I personally run 70 with Dalton red secondary spring..I like it better then yammie white.

Listen to 1000stroker, his sled rocks. That thing comes out so hard its unbelievable. I can come out along side him some times, but most of the time he is 1-2 in front of me. Everyone keeps worrying about clutching with these things, put some energy into getting the chassis hooked up and you won't even have to worry about clutching. Stud every lug on the outside, and don't get fooled into just cranking the transfer up. You want to pick the skis up a little bit, but anything more than a couple inches is way to much. If you don't want to get the hacksaw, run the 1.45 studs in the ripsaw, that is what i am going to next year, the 1.325 studs aren't not enough if your drag racing.

how do you like the Hacksaw?
did you gain any speed?
is it stable?
how is it compared with the ripsaw in the loose stuff? in the fluff?
would you buy it again.
I would stud with the same size studs i use in my ripsaw 144-168 (1.380 stud boys)
thanks for your input,

I have had great luck with the Hacksaw. I have done a lot of racing in 8-12 inches of fairly loose to fairly packed snow. Racing F-7, Rev 800, Srx 700, Mach Z, F-1000, Attacks. We did a lot of racing on a couple of lakes in Rangeley. We did most of the racing in a spot where we had to shut them down at about 90mph. This is when I only had 1.08 studs. Most of the time I would come out of the hole about the same even though most of the sleds had 1.25. Once we got rolling a little between 20-60 mph I would pull away hard except for the big boys. I even raced an Attack with a Blower and the stock track. He did not get by me untill 70-80 mph. I think deeper tracks have a small advantage coming out of the hole and that is about it. After that you are spinning more track and longer studs for nothing.

I set my floats at just under 50lbs and tightened the limiter 1 hole from stock. With 168 studs at full transfer, my front end still comes up at will. Last weekend at a local 660', I was pulling wheelies...cool, but not the fastest. Should I try tightening the limiter one more? Or ease up on the transfer rod? With the 13mm swaybar, I have no problems steering with full transfer, I just want to launch flatter and forward for a better holeshot.

The studs will penetrate best if close to the rails, the shorter the lever arm the less bend in the fiber rods in the track so crowd the rails for best penetration.
I am presently 144 and note I do spin alot yet, my scratch lines are many and deep. I may get 24 dbls and go up to 168 with these next year.
Time to ride now.

I do not have enough miles on the hacksaw to do a fair comparison. We were however in Grand Marais this past weekend and did some racing on a pond. There was some loose snow on top of the ice. Raced a 05 Mach, 06 1000 Renegade , 900 zr cat and easily beat everyone from start to finish so I do not think I lost to much with the hacksaw. Even when the Mach left first I could still run him down and pass him with ease at the end of the pond which I think is around 1000 feet long. I know a lot of people say no way can a Apex run with a Mach but some of us know different including the Mach owners we have beat. Just remember you will now have about a 1/4 inch less tunnel protection, so if you hit with the ripsaw it will be worse with the hacksaw.
