Apex motor

Is there a plastic cover (protector) under the lowest part of the apex motor or is the bottom of the motor exposed to the snow. I've heard it to be both ways.

There is a plastic cover, but its delicate. Add a skid plate.

I had a skidplate on my -04 and still hit the heatexchanger wery hard, figuring it should do much better with a longer plate and possibly in aluminium, what do you guys think? (my -04 plate ditn't cover the exchanger, it ended just in front of it)

If you hit something that hard, then nothing will protect it except for heavy armor, like for an army tank. If you put on a 300 pound slab of stainless, it will be very effectively protected against all impact.
