Apex speedo how accurate is it for 06

i got 133 out of my 03 RX1 no studs with 150 miles on it stock clutching hard pack road.Ive read that Yamaha has changed the gear reduction on the 06.not sure if this would effect top end?

Of Coarse a gear reduction will affect top end. The big question is how much horse power will it take to replace the gear reduction and loss of speed on top end caused by the gear reduction. Dropping one tooth on the gear gave the sled about 3 percent of an increase on bottom end. the increase in horse power by approximately 4.2 percent and the fact that this HP is being applied to a lighter crank equates to big difference on the bottom end and will probably even out on top end.

The Apex run's at a higher RPM 10,500. That will likley make up your topend and the extra HP will shift your clutches out farther in most cond's. kviper

(probably even out on top end).yes that is the big ?.of coarse i understand a smaller gear means greater bottom end and less top.guess i should have been alittle more clear.

Found this little blurb in the latest (Spring 05) American Snowmobiler mag, p. 20:

"Our test rider noticed, however, that the RX-1 ('05) had what he called an "optimistic" speedometer - in its best run the Yamaha's speedo showed 122, which was 19 mph faster than what we recorded on the radar gun. Maybe we should call this a "wishometer!"

Aside from that... lol... I thought the RX-1 actually performed pretty decent in their "real world shoot-out" tests compared to the Fusion, F7 Sno-Pro, and the Mach Z. The Mach Z was actually LAST in five of the six ET catagories and third in the sixth. It DID however post the best mph in four outta' four mph categories, but mph wins radar runs, not drag races!

BTW, the Mach's speedo read about 10 mph high, the Fusion's about 6 mph high, and the F-Cat's a bit over 2 mph high. -- Roy

I agree with this. I couldn't crack 100 on my GPS this winter with mine, even with the Speedo reading 113. Best I got was 99.6 running up a groomed river.

This reading of 99.9 was reading 114/115 on the speedo. Note speedo miles & gps miles .

Just a thought, but anyone who has a sled that once was fast and now is not, check you bearings,my jackshaft, and driveshaft bearings on my 03 were bad in less than 3,000 miles, and both were on the dry side, and i lost 10-15 mph while they were bad.

I'm hoping for more with the Attak. I hit 104 on GPS with my F7 with a 144" track and over 6,000 miles on it at the time.

my attak better do more than that, did any of you guys do any long runs on hard packed roads or lakes, my viper is a trail sled with triple pipes and clutching and ive seen 118 on my garmin etrex vista, its not by anymeens the fastest sled around but its a pretty good runner, my main problem is traction from takeoff, i have to layoff the throttle from takeoff to get better acceleration
