Apex vs XP 800 Real World

I figured I'd update because i have been giving my buddy crap about his doo. We race a bunch of times on a lake but could only go about 1000 feet. The lake was covered with about 3 inches of loosely packed snow. I'm sad to say that he his 800R is now broken in with 800 miles and his fuel mileage is now almost equal to my Apex.

Anyway, we raced a bunch of times and he beat me almost everytime by about 3 - 6 sled lengths. I won twice. He also ripped a bunch of other sleds. His sled is getting faster....
My sled is clutched for nitrous and would only pull about 9500 rpm in those conditions. I think that the 800R would be very close to a good running Apex with stock clutching. I am not sure that the Stock Apex can hang with it anymore....We will see soon.

That front end on the 800R is very light. When I was riding it at 85mph, I pinned it and bounced on the rear of the skid and it ripped the front end right off the ground about 2 feet :)

On the Nitrous, I beat him by about 15 lengths on the same 1000 feet....but that's just not fair.

:nos :nos :nos

That's what I don't like about NOS, you have to clutch for the boost, which is only good for drag racing. Anyways, @9500, you are not even in the sweet spot and I'm pretty sure my slightly tuned Apex will have no problem with them, if I could ever find one to run.

An apex that is turning only 9500 is slow as hell vs one turning 10500-10700.

What he said, Nobody home at 9,500, Not even close!!!!!

really.....dont bring a water pistol to a rock fight,if you know your sled wont run without the nitrous (run to its full potential) why even bother giving him the glory by letting him beat you, again its all in the set up,i know my sled has a stock engine,no clutch kits,no fuel programmers, few little tweaks but no big money grabbing stuff,it beats most around, gets 15-18 mpg and any problems will be covered under warr because no aftermarket question marks to deal with, the hp ratings mean jack,i tied a 192hp f1000 at 104 mph on 1000ft radar run,was i running over my potential or was he running under his,who knows ,would he run away from me on top end, maybe but i dont have 2500 bucks worth of add-ons under my hood, all i can say is im ready to meet one on the trail so i can judge for myself, cat poo or doo it really doesnt matter

170plus What tweaks have you don to make your sled run better? My rtx is completely stock. Will change the upper gear to 23 tooth and it would be a great thing to know what other mods I can do to make this sweet thing run a little bit better without robbing a bank.

I think 170plus changes to completely different setups depending on the racing he is doing or if it is just trail riding? I could be wrong though.

the most important thing 170plus did was his homework. all small things that add up to good performance. he posted some on another post about a week ago, search posts under his name.

Found the post but way to high tech for me :rocks: Think I do the plug change, ulmer stealth airbox, 23tooth upper gear and swap the stock ripsaw with the new cobra track LaLaLa

Get Ulmer to send you his clutch kit too.

i changed the gearing to a 24-40,i already had the 40 gear and i think the bigger gears work better than going smaller even though the ration is about the same, dont really have to machine the clutches but the secondary spring binds so you at least have to put 3 small washers on the studs that the helix bolts onto to prevent this, pic of my air box mod ,not sure if it makes as much difference as the cut top section but more air is better,it all depends on what you like,if you like 0-100 and dont care about gas mileage stud it up and clutch it up and hang on,i like top end and gas mileage so i make the clutches load the motor and you can pull me from 0-100 but you wont hang on top, this year i went to a 13.5x128x1" hacksaw,i think it works better than the ripsaw so far seeing 130 on dreameter the other night and i couldnt hold it cause the snow falling at the time was blinding me ,shooting for 140 this year on dreameter,i seen 139 on my 03rx1(ideal rrbed conditions) but 134 is best on the 06rtx so far,any questions let me know ,im no expert but i know what ive done to this one

I raced one today...

2008 XP "X" with 235mi 1.25 Ripsaw No studs VS. my 2007 Attak with 73mi 1.25 Ice Ripper

condition, very loose hardpack lake

Front the start the XP jumped a half a sled ahead, then the midrange of my ATtack just came on strong and passed him fast to jump a half infront of him....then i very slowly creaped away from him upto my top speed of 113mph on the dreameter.

I've read here she going to only get faster as I put some more hard miles on it.

What of the ulmer's clutch kit do you recomend? Also, I drive unstudded. Will I gain anything with a clutch kit or will I just spin my track?

NO studs = leave it stock then... Just put in the Ram Air Kit and the 23 top gear.... It will help mid to top end... You may want to consider changing the track to the new cobra, 1.325. I hear it is as fast as the ripsaw, but with way better bottom end and helps with accleration and no loss of top end. Change the plugs to CR10EK and that's as best as you will get without studs.
