Obviously my sled runs a lot slower than stock at 9500 rpm. It still makes about 143 HP at 9500rpm according to my dynotesting. It is about 3-5 lengths slower than a stock Apex in the same 1000 feet.
That 800R didnt seem to break in until it had about 600 miles on it. It got faster and fuel mileage went up about 40%....so far.
All I'm saying is...don't think you will just whip that sled once broken in. It will probably come down to who gets the start.
P.S. That is also why I don't like nitrous...clutching. Next year I'm going for a Supercharger.

I think the timing retard program runs out on hours, but most say it's around 400-600 miles or so. My assumption is the program/chip finally is at full potential.

On the Nitrous, I beat him by about 15 lengths on the same 1000 feet....but that's just not fair.
That is freakin sweeeet!
Getting the holeshot will be the most important part of beating an XP or any fast sled for that matter. Practise makes perfect.

Well I just ran the 800 renedgade (what ever the long track is) and he killed me. Out of the hole and from a roll at about 15 -
Although he even stated my weight compared to his may have been a factor and his had the proper clutch work done. We didnt swap riders to see what would happen but undoubtly the Apex would have been closer. I had him by about 85lbs.
I rode it, it didnt seem all that fast when I rode it. It rode pretty nice and handled real well.

Bummer....
Well, all sleds have problems, but after touring Dootalk and looking at some of the headaches they're having with the XP, I wouldn't care if it could beat my sled by 50 lengths.
I think SkiDoo should have kept this one in R&D a little bit longer.

I read dootalk as well and it sounds all to familiar to me, hand warmers, idler wheels, windshields , ring any bells ? The fact that the XP is not dominating in performance should be a very big headache.

You said you are clutched, right,so let him clutch it,if he does a cudney complete clutch kit,the results may be very differant. Clutching on an apex does not always make your sled faster, but if clutched correctly it will be much quicker, the clutching on any and all apex/attaks are very very good, the secondary on the yammi still uses a button style secondary, and it keeps you shifted up,so you can reach top speed and stay there, doo and poo use a roller style team/team style secondary,ya they are smooth at backshifting and upshifting, the draw back is they love to backshift ala snowcross, and that is bad for top speed to stay shifted out,i have a 800r and it is an anamal to 108 speedo,oh ya that is 101 gps, best speed yet,but once clutched you can get an honest 115 gps out of them, and even that speed is not out of control for a 430lbs dry weight sled @ 151hp i ran right by an apex i set up last year, that we had running 116 on the gun all day long, but i did feel it had more legs than my doo,it could not catch me on the rr bed because of the huge lead i got on him,but out on a lake he would run on buy,the doo has some clutching probplems, but once straightened out they will be good lake runners,if they stay togeather,ya i am still a yammi believer to,as we still have a very good running 06 rtx and 05 vector, plus my buds 06 apex gt that i have to run with, just dont run one of the xp's through the nasty beat up trails, cause that is its best suit.RTXs said:Now his sled was brand new, maybe 20-30 miles on it when we raced so i'm sure it'll get faster but how much faster can it really get?? Like I said I was shocked that he didn't walk away. The times he did beat me he hit the gas first, and it was still VERY close. Oh yeah it died on the trail with about 80 miles on it, dead out of gas! So much for the 25 mpg thing.

so you're telling us stoutner that at 85mph, the 800r pulled the skis that high in the air? I really doubt that you got that much. I've ridden alot of really fast sleds, but unless the setup was wwwwaaaaaayyyyyy off, theres no way you would do that?? A few inches, maybe...

Hey mnmsnowbeast.. read the thread title "Real World" you're thoughts are a lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda internet racing. The new ski doos are good sleds and I was thinking that the 800R would be my next sled but if I bought one this year I would've been very dissapointed with the accerlation of the sled considering the weight-hp ratio. It makes no sense that that I am able take an 800R with my Apex, even with my super hi-tech clutch kit that took a garage idiot (me) a half hour to install.

Not to turn this into a pissing contest...but....an apex will run 117+ right out of the box. I run with 2 brothers (an ER and an RTX) both of which left their sleds box stock. They both ran 117.something and when the RTX brother dumped the air out of the floats he ran 120.3. That's BOX stock..not ISR stock.
It does sound like the 800r's are coming to life once they get some miles on them though. They ought to be fast given the power to weight ratio!

Ya must be something in the air, spelling and reading,so how many apex/attaks/rx1's have you had,i am not claiming to be a yammi guru, all i know is the doo 800r is lacking top speed because doo is now playing the poo game with 440cc style clutching,or snowcross style clutching, and it is killing this rocket,i was not on here to knock yammis,as i stated before i still have two very good going ones. yes doc we have seen some very good running apex sleds, but to say all of them stk run 117 out of the box is a stretch, just ask weltracer how well his goes top speed, gps recorded of course. Sorry if this in any way sounded like a bash! peteRTXs said:Wow! since '03 huh, I didn't know I was dealing with the Yoda of yamaha's.
