Hey Mtnviper - Sounds like the airbox rubber sleeves between the carbs and the airbox, might be sucking some air. Remove the lid, and feel around the carb openings. If you feel a bend in the rubber, it might be leaking. 2nd guess would be to take the top plastic caps off, but do it slowly, there are little rubber rings, on the edge towards the motor, one might be missing. I have'nt touched anything on my carbs yet except for the Holtzman springs.
Hey Boston RX1 - I am going to Great Lakes Dragway tomorrow, (Tuesday), to make some runs and try the new springs. I am also bringing some extra rubbers, in case I loose one.

Nos, I was wondering if you are still using the stock air box, or did you go the K&N route? If so did the change improve response, performance etc.

Hey Guys - Finnaly hit a 10! And the springs work very well. They made the throttle response even better, and the way irt leaves the starting line is like a jack rabbit. The skis had to be in the air a good 6 inches, after that the track spun a little, and got traction again. But here are the times.
Ran the same clutching all night, and this run was with the green springs. (0-4000)
1st run - 1.547 60 ft. 6.872 1/8 mile 10.998 @ 113.55mph
Changed back to original springs (spun big time)
2nd run - 1.624 60 ft. 6.989 1/8 mile 11.228 @ 112.65mph
tried again with stock springs
3rd run - 1.547 60 ft. 6.892 1/8 mile 11.135 @ 112.51mph
put green springs back in (humidity went from 40%-95% in 2 hours!)
4th run - 1.572 60 ft. 6.934 1/8 mile 11.190 @ 113.19mph
5th run - 1.571 60 ft. 6.939 1/8 mile 11.186 @ 113.25mph
The springs improved throttle response and mph. Wish I had a 1.483 60 ft. time to see what we could have really run. I called Barry Holtzman today and told him the good news, and we both agreed that the yami carbs have a vaccum slide performance problem. The proof is between Run 1 and run 3, identical 60 ft. times, and an .137 improvement in time, and and increase im mph.

Thanks for the information. I think the $35.00 is well spent.

No Problem Boston - Just give Holtzman Engineering a call, and they will help you out. Tell them you saw the results on the Totallyamaha forum.

Terry I think you should tighten up the gap in your transfer rods some (less transfer). Your skis should only be about 2" off the ground at launch. This will get your 60' better.

NOS-PRO checked out the carbs, rubber boots were on ok. I see what you mean about those little O-rings. Almost lost one before I realized they were there! Float bowls and pilot jets looked nice and clean, no varnish. Once I pulled the slides out, I see that there is 5 positions on the needle, just like the flat slides. Going to try it with the needles all the way up. Also since we race near sea level, I thought I would try 137.5 mains as black john suggested. The throttle response is better now. I know that automotive engines produce their best power (but not fuel economy) at about 12-12.5 to 1 air fuel ratio. I'll find out this weekend what the RX-1 does when I give it a little more fuel.
Srxspec, I'm going to do some video taping of my launches this weekend to try and dial the chasis in a little better. Is there a ideal distance to shoot for, when it's carrying the skis? We use starting ramps on the grass.

you should have your skis about 3" off the ground on launch and they shouldn't touch at all for the first 100 ft at least. even then they should only "skim" the top of the ground slightly.

Hey Allen - I usually have the skis just coming off the asphalt, or an inch or 2, but when I changed the springs in the carbs, it made the throttle response instant, which is causing my 60 ft. problem now. I will do some back road testing before my next race. Thanks Allen.

Hey Nos,
What do the springs do? How does it improve it? Is is hard to change them?
thanks
