Bad compression on 98 vmax

I am a rider not a mechanic. My second sled is a 98 vmax 600 XT. I have had a new track installed and the carbs were cleaned. The problem... The mechanic did a compression test on one side it is about 118 on the other side it is around 100. I need to get this sled running for a 600 mile UP trip to take my son on. I have been told that the local Yammy shop will put new gaskets and rings in for $120. What should I do. .
