As I sift through the internet for info about my sled, I see there are several different models of the fx nitro. What's the difference between them all? Mine is a 12 xtx - my understanding is that things were changed from year to year as well, like in '13 they upgraded to a 1.25" track. Does this make it a hassle to get parts?

Well, after some 'smarter' searching I have answers. Looks like the xtx was a good score.

Nope a lot of it is identical they just updated few odds and ends. Biggest change was in 2010 when they went with diff tunnel design to allow more clearance for running boards on the snow and 09 they changed up front suspension a bit for little more stable sled.
Rtx is short track
Xtx is 144" track
Mtx is the mountain sled 162" track I think not positive
Only true differance between any of models within the same track length is just the shock pkg and graphics.

2009 XTX and 2009 RTX Se had the new tunnel design first. Steeper and more narrow running board.

your 2012 xtx skid is equip with a tip rail to help fight darting on hard pack and 1.25" x 144" in 2012 they fix the hand warmer issue the 2103 came with 1.75" x 144" to switch track all you need to do is to remove the tunnel protector they share sprocket pitch 2.52 and you should consider getting ice scratcher if you decide to go with taller lug not only to extend the life of the hyfax but for cooling issue as wellAs I sift through the internet for info about my sled, I see there are several different models of the fx nitro. Nice, thanks for the info y'all and very informative "Gearhead". I'd thought about that taller track - missed it by 1 year. I do plan to put a set of scratchers on there for sure, and possibly a skid plate. First we just need to get some snow happening.

Does this mean I could simply pull off the OEM plate and make one out of aluminum sheeting or checker plate? The above photo is proof of such? This is getting exciting!

I have a glass shop where we use lexan (similar to plexiglass but tougher). Maybe that would be good material...

Are you still using the push clips to hold the aluminum plate up? I noticed you got rid of the top front one....
