Belt change procedure

So now I have an idea how to do the belt change. I did notice while figuring it out that the secondary pulley has play in out of about maybe 0.050" when I was trying to remove the belt. Is this normal?
The belt has never been of from new.

The play is normal. I like to wear my mechanics gloves when I change the belt (saves your hands) Also I sometimes cheat a little by putting a wrench on one of the helix bolts to give me a little more leverage. Just don't overdo it.

The wrench trick on the secondary bolt
12mm.. works great. Saves a lot of BS.
That’s if you don’t have the fancy aftermarket belt adjusters venders sell.

12 mm wrench on a helix bolt is the easiest way to separate the secondary clutch. No need to buy some crazy setup that still requires tools. Out on the trail I usually do it without any tools as shown in the video but always use a wrench while in the shop. Carrying a 12 mm wrench may not be a bad idea for those people that struggle with this.

If you get or already have an after market secondary spring as I do, you will find it much harder to change your belt. I have lost some of the use of my right hand in an accident and needed a solution for changing my belt in the event I was alone. https://www.richmotorsports.com/store/yamaha-belt-change-tool-sr-viper.html I have installed the tool and it is literally a one hand belt change. I am not sure what if any the long term affects will be on the secondary. If anyone else has this installed please chime in.

If carrying the belt change tool on your sled it is a good idea to cover the threads with a hose or tape. The threads are not super hard and get damaged if bouncing against your other tools.

Thank you for the heads up.
