Anyone have an install guide for the bender stage 2? I'm installing one shortly and I have heard so weird stuff...head shims and valve shims. I understand the need for a head shim or L/C pistons...but the valve shims have me stumped. I'm wondering if this isn't as straight forward as I thought it would be...........

No need for any of this? Unless you want to run a lot of boost on pump gas. It is not bad to put on, just take time.

It's purely a pump gas sled..and the head shim may be a good safety net. I didn't think it was necessary unless you were looking to exceed the 220hp mark. I just want to make sure I have everything lined up before the install...I don't want anyone saying "oh you should have do X..that's why there's a hole in the block" LOL.

YOu can run 8 psi safe on good pump gas or get some race fuel and turn the boost up.
for the valve shims, are you referring to lash caps? When installing a turbo you want to go through your valve clearances. If memory serves me right, the intake valve clearance should be right around 7-8 thousanths and the exhaust intake clearance should be right around 9-10 thousandths. All at the high end of the spec.

Why is that?
With a turbo, you get ALOT more heat in the engine and increasing these valve clearance allows for the expansion of the metals in this heat. The tolerance need to be higher.

I'd set things towards the loose side regardless-turbo or not, the only thing they are going to do is tighen up over time. EGT of a turbo engine is that running properly is not ALL that much higher then a high output NA engine-maybe 100 degrees F.

I just re-shimmed my valves and all my clearances are now in the upper 0.001" of yamaha specs!

I really can't see what effect a turbo will have on valve clearance. Like travis said the egt's should be about the same and the engine temp itself should be about the same especially with the rear mount turbo.
What kind of boost levels require the head shim? Is it different between the apex or rx?

BTW A head shim is an el-cheapo way to lower compression...
And el-cheapo way I went.... at least this winter.
