Best gearing for these 998’s

Well, I thought Hurricane used to sell it, but just checked their website to no avail. Either they sold out or I'm going senile!!

My apologies for the bad advice!!

Best I ever saw was 129 speedo I'm running stock LTX gearing. Was 125 gps. Trail was very hard packed and a little bumpy well bumpy at that speed. I think that's about tops for the gearing maybe a mph or two on a glare ice run. Dealer near me cuts the clutches and claims about a 10 mph gain. I've heard the sidewinder clutches have more overdrive than past Yamaha clutches but he still does this mod. Not sure how much it effects the low end grunt if it does at all like a 22 top gear might.
Do you know who's cutting the clutches is there room to take off 60 thou. Do you have there phone number, been asking this question for a while now, thnx

For sure, I'm keeping the 1.25 for now but removed 48 studs and sharpened 144 1.575 Megabites. We'll see what gains I can make. I'm not sure if I should gear up from 22/41 or wait till I get a new 1". Any thoughts on that?
this sled likes tall gears in the right conditions . my choices r 22/37 , 24/37 , 24/41 will do the job

Where is the place place to buy gears in Canada for a Sidewinder?

70 thou from the secondary coil spring pocket. Have seen some post on this and it seems like 20 thou may be too much for each side of the primary. Belt will ride too high and twist or climb out.

Mine was machined by dealer, both secondary pocket and Primary sheaves. I was told 20 thou but after doing a clutch moc I figured maybe 10 on each sheave because I still have 1/8' or more from top of shortest sheave. Had about 1/4" stock.

Going to try 21/38, ran up against a cat the other day running the Hurricane 270 and it was fast on the top end. We were pretty close down low and in the mid but he pulled away on the top end. Anyone know what length of chain I’ll need?

84

Someone gave me a formula for calculating chain length. I can't remember who but here it is.

Top gear + bottom gear / 2 + 54.19 = chain length

Example:

21 + 38 / 2 + 54.19 = chain length

59/2 + 54.19 = chain length

29.5 + 54.19 = 83.69

Therefore you would need an 84p chain

Did you notice any more top end how does it work compared to stock

Well it was part of a tune package that my dealer was, and still is doing for a price. He talked it up greatly and it was much easier to have him give my sled a flash rather then taking the ecu off and shipping to TD.

Package was both clutches machined, stock muffler modded by a local guy mimicking a D&D muffler mod, and the ecotrail flash.

I could not tell any difference from stock, but I was having problems with this set up since it’s initial install. Ended up being motor component problems I was told. All under warranty. Have upgraded to Max Spool 16 since and now updating again to Max Spool 16 3 bar.

Very tough for me to say if clutch machining improved performance. Too much done at once, and no stock winder to compare with, just my buddies well set up Apex LTX with yamacharger.
