I have the same 190 turbo my set upHavnt talked to Dave ** but... I' rrunning the 47/39 helix had it in position 0-1 thinking about a different setup. But not sure what to do
stm weights 60 base 8 washers in heel and 4 washer tip total weight with screws 72.6
Orange pink Orange
51-43 dalton helix
epi purple 0-1
21-41 gearing
pulls 8900 ski's in the air untill 100mph out of gear
no belt issues using 8DN with OSP ajuster
off set 13.5 to 16.5mm
0.52 is around 13mm
The 39 degree is shallow just wondering if it is back shifting and then you are coming on to it and the belt is whipping ?
I read a thread where Clutch Master explained how it happens i will try and find thread.
I also spoke to Dave and he told me some vipers came with motor mounts not welded in the correct location.
Did you ever check your C t C ? 262-266

Ok ya I have the osp belt adjuster as well, 21-41 gearing as well, the reason I had the different helix is because when I had the 1.7 track it would climb to like 8800 then fall to 8100 ish and never move, I sent my clutches to get machined and I told Dave about the issue and he installed that one, it worked well, but I destroyed that track and put a 1.5 ripsaw on it.. Definitely doesn't grab as hard but she pulls. The sled runs fine, pulls real good, top rpm is anywhere from 8800-9150 or so (depending on conditions) I have thaught about the helix a bit but the sled runs pretty good the way it is. Is your helix the one that came with the original clutch kit from Dave? Maybe I should go back to that and try it....
I've never checked center to center... Could you quickly explain how to do it?

Ok I'll take a look. At it in the morning! Thanks -
I'll talk to Dave about the helix to see what he says... It revs real nice the way it is... But that could be Part of the problem. He should have a answer.
Anyways out of curiosity after riding for a while how warm are your clutches? Mine are hot to the touch but I can hold. My hand on them - my dads apex is cooler and a friend with a viper xtx his clutches are about the same as mine (non turbo)
Also with that gearing and your set up what kinda top speed you seeing? I've beem kinda timid latly with the belt issue... I know I will do 100 forsure but Havnt actually held it... Just curious

I don't know how many miles are on your sled, but one of the most common causes of premature belt failure I see is the face of the primary becomes worn. This is usually on the sliding sheave, but can also be on the stationary, engine side sheave also. Put a straight edge on and have a look.So I can't seem to keep a belt longer than 500 miles... (give or take) before they blow Apart. I' m Running the 8dn with clutches machined for overdrive and the 8 dn belt. Clutch temps are wsm. To the touch, out of curiosity I checked NA viper to see and his clutches were the same temp. (as far as my hand was concerned). Is there anything I can check? Should the belts last longer or is that about the life with a turbo? My average speed is 50-80 mph some Bursts up to a 100 or so and sometimes. Even slower... Just wondering if anyone has any pointers? Not quite sure how to exactly check the alignment of the clutches as they could be out a tad..... Thinking of trying a gates belt... Does anyone know the part number for the gates belt (8dn equivalent)
Really like to stop blowing belts.... Always seems to break something when one goes... I. Can buy a new. 8dn every 400 miles or so but #*$&@ someimes thats a weekend doesn' s. Like the right thing to do
Thanks guys!

OK ya I'll have to take a look at that - sled just rolled over to 4500 miles. I guess best way to do it is to take the primary apart eh

No, it can be done on the machine. all you need is a straight edge minimum 4 inches long and hold it against the sheave. Sheave should be perfectly straight. If they start to bevel(or groove) in the middle, belt life is awful.
I first saw this problem on a customers 06 Venture 4 stroke, it was eating belts like crazy, the sheaves were worn 1-2mm about half way up. Put on new sheaves, problem solved.
