So this $hit is a common occurrence with the Viper??
No wonder the 1049 sucks donkey balls in that chassis and is so slow. It's that choked down and can't breathe. Pathetic.

I never knew this is an issue. I just bought a 18 leftover. I really like how it sounds stock.

Oh great thanks. I was going to get a can when I first got it but thought the exhaust note was good sounding then talking to my local dealer but more importantly at pats they really didn’t recommend. Some weight savings but power not really anything and in their opinion even a slight loss in HP depending on can. Plus I ride the 906 90% of the time and they seem to be cracking down on dbs more and more. I know bikeman is above that and mbrp is rt at max and the guy claiming 10hp on here doesn’t have a dB at 4000 rpm. Thanks again14 and 15. They were reinforced after that.

The flash it came with. I have not reflashed mine. It starts 1st try 95% of the time and always idles 1500. 2 tries when below zero cold. I believe that backfire incident was related to poor fuel quality. No idea how long that fuel had been in sled as it was bought as a left over.

Well my fight with Yamaha is started, As previously stated the dealer accidently sent in a warranty claim on my wife's 2015 which was accepted at 50% as there was no history on it since the break in check up. When it was discovered that they sent in for the wrong machine dealer was optimistic for my 2016 as it ran out of warranty on November 30 2018. It has been back for fuel gauge replacement the second year and had the previous flash in it also. Well same answer 50% of repairs which is on a $1470 estimate for the required work. I'm not happy about that and dealer has said that they did everything for me and it isn't right of Yamaha not to cover everything. Dealer has never heard of mufflers blowing up on very cold start ups, which is a lie as I was at the same outfitter the year before when one of their Cat customers had a muffler go boom after about 20 attempts to start. Monday I will be calling Yamaha in Toronto to see if I can get anywhere with them. Does anyone know if they will do a partial claim such as get the side panel and small parts from Yamaha and purchase my own muffler from some one that has installed a can or turbo unit.

Damn I feel for you and doesn’t seem like dealer is giving you much love. I’d get the paperwork from the dealer and take sled home or to another dealer also I’m sure if they met you halfway the stock muffler is way too much money. You can get used or an mbrp for $280 just an example of cost of aftermarket.Well my fight with Yamaha is started, As previously stated the dealer accidently sent in a warranty claim on my wife's 2015 which was accepted at 50% as there was no history on it since the break in check up. Perry have you been without a sled all this time? I think your dealer screwed this all up right from the start when he sent them the claim on the wrong sled.

No I was fortunate that my brother in law has 2-2014 vipers that have been parked this winter so I am riding with his muffler and red side panel. My dealer told me that they did all they can and now I am getting all my info lined up before I call Yamaha Canada headquarters in Toronto. Found a used muffler in Barrie Ontario for $100 and may end up buying that and a new side panel from another dealer before I go half and half with Yamaha's offer for their warranty proposal.Perry have you been without a sled all this time? Talked with representative in Toronto and explained my situation and she told me that the flashes are called "product enhancements" and have nothing to do with backfires, kickbacks or poor starting in general. Very well versed in not accepting any blame on Yamaha's part. She took all my information and asked if I had any other Yamaha units and counted out 5 units for her. She was to talk to the service rep to see why and how he came up with the 50/50 proposal and indicated that she can not change the deal but the service can make a different offer if he wants to. When she contacted me 2 days later as promised I was told that the service rep would not budge on the 50/50 proposal but she hinted that the dealer can help out also by lowering their prices or by contributing themselves thereby creating a 3 way split. Couldn't get a hold of anyone with authority at the dealer today as I'm willing to buy a side panel at cost hopefully and find my own muffler from elsewhere. Missed a good deal on a muffler in Barrie for $100 while I was waiting on Yamaha's answer.

Boy they sure are dragging their feet for a loyal customer. The dealer should have taken care of you right from the beginning. He screwed the pooch from the start and now you will pay. The dealer means everything when dealing with the manufacturer.
