Checked my doughnuts last week, not good. Had them replaced last season @ 4000mi,and now have 8000mi. As you can see the flex pipes wore through the Y pipes, and also had a crack by the mount. Checked with my dealer, and Ypipes backorded till god nows when. Well, snows on the ground, sled must drive! Get out the tig welder. I clamped up the flex pipes and welded it up,and turned out O.K. I put on 400mi. this weekend and so far so good.

How does Titanium weld with a TIG welder, I was told it couldn't be done?

Your work looks pretty good! let me know how it holds up, 'cause a buddy of mine has a cracked set and if this works he could get them welded and keep them as spare ones.

Just need TI rod. Welded many TI silencers for the dirt bike guy's that crash often.

Thanks I'll talk to our shop welder tomorrow about this...

If not i will just ride the sled as is, till the parts come in... yamaha will just cover any further damaged parts under warranty..

Ok, I had an exhaust leak. So I pulled my seat off and found that one clamp fell off and lost the bolt. I was lucky.

However, I fail to understand how if the flex pipe and Y Pipes DON'T touch each other, as the donut is in between them, that it is claimed that they rub and wear through when the donut burns out?

Could the motor flex backwards 1/4"?

When the donuts wear out, that allows the clamp to rattle and wear on the pipes.. wearing threw or cracking them..

Yes yamaha is covering them under warranty..

I'm not sure if they're all breaking in that same spot, but after looking at what's going on can say that Yamaha has that exhaust mounted in there too rigid, and is working those clamped joints too much. It seems that the tunnel flex is overcoming the amount of movement they figured into the system. If they would have a spring joint (like the two strokes have)@ the muffler and maybe at the mid pipe it would allow for the extra movement.

welded with mig

i welded a piece of galvanized tubee to the area where the donut meets the flex pipe, also the pipes going to the muffler had cracks at 3 different joints. anyone know if these will hold it seemed pretty good when i put it back together. i have had a leak along time because i don't remember the machine being so quiet as it is know. thank for your input
