hello. My issue (there’s lots). So new starter, new starter relay. The starter stays running intermittent not all the time but the only way can get it to stop is unhook the ground wire. I’m thinking I have a faulty relay its a aftermarket one?

You nailed it. Several members can attest from hard experience that its not worth the risk to try to save a buck on starter relays. You were on the ball to catch it, many don't.

Welcome to TY, otherwise known as Yamaha Heaven. The guys on here are really helpful.

Thx you. I have learned tons of info from this forum. I put a light on the relay and it already paid off by telling me that the starter still has power. Off to the Yamaha dealer to bet OEM relay Monday. Thank you once again

Count yourself lucky you caught it. Try pull starting a 4 stroke, it ain't easy. Been there, done that when my starter burned up because of a CCC starter relay.

Is it even possible to pull start a 4-stroke. How hard is it & what is the procedure. I have pull started my 2-strokes a few times.

I added an led light that will stay illuminated if the the relay sticks. Here's how to pull start a 4stroke

That's with a Phazer or MP though. Can't imagine a Nytro or, heaven forbid, an Apex. Might be possible with those. A stone cold engine though may be impossible as they take longer to crank.

Rockmeister is a vendor here (great support and great to deal with). He offers a LED kit as described. Also sells upgraded relays.

I agree that TY4STROKE is worth its weight in gold!

Just put the + side of the LED to the output to starter side of relay. Other side to any ground or battery -. Easy peasy.

Sweet, I found my next project... I had a starter stick on a 2012 A/C TZ1 previously, so I know what happens. Would definitely be nice to know beforehand.

The light saved me a starter for sure. I did the exact same as mooseman posted. If replacing the relay buy OEM. Not aftermarket
