Chain Case Failure?

100 miles on mine and no problems to speak of. LTX.

Ran into another one just like mine riding around Leanard Mn this weekend and he had over 500 miles on his. No problelms with it.

Going to get it in the shop (my own) this week and give it a good once-over.

I sure like the sled.

IMO Banks is stating the obvious. The 2012 and newer cats have major issues. These new Yamaha were supposed to be the corrected version.

These sleds were promised as Yamaha's, not as blue Arctic Cats.

Right and they get mad at me for trying to tell them and now I am a troll. Like my earlier post I am ok with knowing I will replace top end and so is ski doo they are paying for it. I am at doo talk. Just figured I would give some help. I was like you guys but am now not blinded.

It is why I didn't get the cat 800.

As my riding buddy had to go get his 2014 Doo from the shop for needed warranty work I ragged him how my 2014 Cat M8 needs nothing. Now go away jealousy is not attractive.

ANOTHER CHAINCASE PROBLEM: I have a 2014 SR Viper (standard model). Riding in the UP of Michigan with my son this weekend first time out with the machine. On our way back from Copper Harbor. Heard noise in mid section of snowmobile, thought it was a ice chunk at first. Then lost all power to drive system and then much clattering and grinding, I knew what it was immediately. From what took place I don't believe the chain broke based on what I heard, I think one of the gears started stripping and then it all stripped or chain came off. Taken it to dealer this morning and I will be watching as they pull it apart. I am very disappointed as this is my 21st new Yamaha and the first time I ever had something like this happen. I will be honest I was afraid of buying this hybrid model. I

Bradsmachine, sorry to hear about problem, please let us know what u saw as soon as mechanic pulls the cover, This is not like Yamaha to have major issue like this so soon, but then again its not a true yamaha :o|

Yes please. Someone with this issue let us know what you find. What the cause is so we can all check ours over and avoid a tow if possible. Thanks

There seems to be two stories here. Some have the same symptoms and lose power but are able to press reverse to get back in gear and able to get home. Some just say they lose power and do not say they tried the reverse button.

Bradsmachine did you try to put it in reverse and then drive again like others were able to?

Either we have two different problems here or sane issue just others are not trying to put it in gear. I do not know but seems highly unlikely that gears would just strip like that. Makes more sense for it to pop out of gear.

I did not try to put in reverse after all the grinding. When I pulled the panels off and relized the secondary spun free, I just prceeded to tow it. I should know something by noon today(cst) and will update the post.

sure making my decision to on what sled to buy either a new vioer or a left over apex with ps and the extra HP. I waited this long i am going to wait another week i guess to see what happens. First ride isnt til then anyway.

4 Failures on TY and it is not even January 1st. I smell a recall coming!

I decided to check my chain tension yesterday, and I had to give the tension bolt almost full 6 turns with last turn been less easy to turn, backed out 1/4 turn and hope it stays together. Sled has only 260 miles. Maybe that is the problem, loose chains?

I had the exact same issue as bradsmachine. I thought that the gears were all F-up so I didn't try to put it in reverse. Dealer said I could have and it would have put it back into gear. Hopefully this won't happen again but if it does I will try to reverse and hope that it works.
Note for everyone bashing AC, I never had this happen to me last season with my 2013 Sno Pro Limited Turbo. The only fault to this sled was it liked to blow belts!

I'm anxious to learn more about these incidents. If you are there when they pull the cover, take pictures so we can get a better idea what is going on.

Interestingly checking chain tension is not on the list of things the dealer is instructed to check on the assembly instructions. Of course maybe that is because there were no gaskets available????? Think I will see if I can get at mine from the footrest area.
