Chain Case Failure?

Isn't chain tension the dealers responsibility when they do the pdi?

I'm very curious as to what's actually happening as well... Apparently nobody has opened the case up to see what the exact issue is... To me its either an issue with the reverse or chain tension, and judging by the amount of bolts that were loose on mine from pdi it wouldn't surprise me if chain tension was being overlooked in pdi

The dealers were told the chain tension was set from factory and did not need to be checked. I put my turbo on at 30km and my chain was loose. Nice thing about the turbo is I can adjust the chain without removing anything.

Just saw this thread and just adding my .02

First of all, we don't need any bashing. If there is a problem, instead of biotching about it, use your head and let's try and figure out what and why it's happening. Report it to your dealer, complaining on a forum will not get results and problems reported to Yamaha. Come on guys, lets all pull together here.....

Now, I checked my chain tension just because I was curious....and it was a little loose (1 3/4 - 2 turns). XTX with almost 100 miles

Were you able to check the chain without removing the exhaust, some have said you can do it by removing the footrest?

I removed the exhaust and was able to save the gasket. This was before I put any miles on it. Took a razor blade very carefully as I heard gaskets were being destroyed upon removal. After almost 100 miles now, I gaurantee the gasket will be just when I change oil. I want to make a copper gasket. (The main reason I took it apart was to see if I could gut the stock exhaust)

**junk** not just

Hurricane posted several; weeks ago that they had copper gaskets being made. When people asked about them I never saw any reply.

I really don't think the dealers are preloading the actuator when they add oil to the chain case and this is allowing it to pop into neutral while riding
Gotta get the word out somehow cause yamaha is not communicating with it's dealers

THE BASHING STOPS NOW! FIRST AND LAST WARNING FROM HERE ON ANYONE BASHING WILL BE GIVEN A HOLDIAY FROM THIS SITE!

Bradsmachine, sorry to hear about problem, please let us know what u saw as soon as mechanic pulls the cover, This is not like Yamaha to have major issue like this so soon, but then again its not a true yamaha :o|

Not quite correct, SRX was discontinued because of exploding engines. Info below speaks of this. Just saying nobody is perfect but Yamaha at least will cover thiers with warranty. ALL SRX mentioned below were recalled and the engines destroyed. Don't panic Yamaha will fix ths.

For those who don’t know or may have heard the rumors. The 82 SRX production run (or Vmax as some would have it) was canceled in the name of damage control and to cannibalize the crankshafts for owners of the ill-fated 81′s. Reason being an unfortunate combination of clutch / crankcase assembly and carburetors doomed the TSS SRX to a life of broken crank-shafts. The name was dropped along with the engine and styling, to return as the first V-Max 540 in 1983. - See more at: http://snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca/categ ... GqhNY.dpuf

OK. I was just at my dealer. We put belt back on, fired it up. he put it in reverse and put it in forward gear again and it worked fine. He is contacting Yamaha today as this is the third one he sold that had this issue. The grinding I(we) are hearing when this happens are the two gears not fully engaged. Its sounds bad when it happens. He pulled one aparts and there was no evidence of gear wear or shavings. although, he is changing the gear oil. For reference the dealers do not put any oil in the sleds. The sleds come with all oils filled. The dealers are supposed to just check the levels and top off if needed. Thats it.
The person that talked about the accuator not rotated correctly, you are likely correct. As my dealer spoke to another dealer and this is what they are discovering.
Looks to be an easy fix as far as I know thus far. Hope this helps!
Plan to buy my 22nd new Yamaha sled next year!

that doesnt 'close the case' for me.

What is causing the gears to disengage while cruising along? Is it chain tension, or something else?

Did you edit your post? I swear the part about the actuators wasnt there the first time.
