Changing bearings on drive shaft and jack shaft

05 rage chaincase bearing seized 3000miles smashed the chaincase, its $200. yamaha csr doesn't give a crap out of warranty too bad for you

It would be a good idea ,but I just used a long punch and a hammer .
That nut has a self locking ring on it . Just make sure that you tighten the chain side first ,and that the locking sleve is loose so that it can center its self when you tighten it .

Like Wilson said, punch and hammer to remove.
Install: install top gear (no chain) and snug up top gear nut to seat shaft,
Hold ring nut with small channel lock pliers, install secondary bolt/washer and sleeve and use it to torque ring nut. I think it's 40lbs or so ? check manuel. Check offset and float after install.

Did any of you guys change the ring nut bearing on the secondary while doing the other 4????

I am not sure what you mean . If you mean the jack shaft bearing right
behind the secondary ,then yes definitely change it . If you are talking about the nut ,then no reuse it .

This part listed as a nut bearing on the parts diagram....I wasn't going to change it but someone suggested I should...

No need to replace that .Unless you damaged it some way . Mine has a metal locking tab which is reusable .Yamaha reused mine when they did it on warranty . Just change the bearings .

Bearing job went well. The only bearing that was in bad shape was the lower one with the collar on the PTO side but I feel better now knowing all 4 are new. The cobra track sure bites hard out of the hole!!

That is good to hear . I didn't change the chain case side when I did the clutch side . It blew on me the next season ,so be happy that you changed it .You should be good for 6000 miles now .

I just had all mine done at 8,800 miles while I was putting a track on. Saw no need to overlook while the track was out... the bearings looked to be in great shape, but I do take very good care of my machine by changing my case fluids yearly. I also repack the secondary and speedo yearly which keeps them cleaner. Good luck

I do exactly the same and my bearings didn't make it to 4000 miles.

Your bearings must of been made on a Fri afternoon. ;):D

or a Monday AM? whether is clutch parts, exhaust donuts, bearings, or ??? there seems to be a wide range of mileages before some parts wear out and need to be replaced.

My YES warranty has been the best $500 I've ever spent!

Groomerdriver--I've got a 2005 Vector with 4,000 miles and a 2005 RX-1 with 5,000 miles. No bearing maintenance to date on either. I've got a YES warranty on both until Nov09. The exhaust (doughnuts?) on the RX-1 is also now really loud! Any suggestions on how to get a Yammie dealer to replace bearings or doughnuts under warranty? I live in Madison, WI. Purchased the RX-1 here, the other in Pembine, WI where we do most of our riding and store the sleds. If you have a dealer recommendation, I'm willing to travel to take care of my babies!!
