I would like to get all the belt dust and grime off of my clutches (without taking the primary off...no clutch puller  ) and do NOT have access to a pressure steamer (which is probably the best method). Any other ideas? How about an engine degreaser or something? Is this OK to use?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

All you really need to clean is tyhe faces of the sheeves. Take your belt off and start your sled. Take a scotch bright and from bottom to top press it against the sheeves as they spin. You can dow this to your secondary off your sled. The primary will sparkle

Thanks JTSSRX I have done this before and your right it does a great job. But, what can I do to get all that gunk and grime out of the cracks and crevaces of the primary? Anything?

Is JTS gonna pay for your hospital bills when you loose a finger in the clutch??..jk..
I found that a decent degreaser works good, then pressure wash it off and blow dry it with compressed air. If you don't have a pressure washer at home, you must have a self car wash place close by?

what we use here is cald brake clean it works best they use that stuff on your rotors and drums to get all the crap off i have used brake clean for 12 years now on all my clutches and power vales and well everything
then i use a 600 grit emery cloth to ruff it up so the belt dont slip
try this guy im tell you , you will not be dissapointed
thnx marc

Acetone works also .. i just dont like the smell of it so i use brake kleen ;)
but yeah 1 of the 2 works well

but matt i dont see how it leaves a flim... i spray it on my hands just now and it did not leave a film like you speek of , it turned my hands all white and dry but there was no flim .. i dont under stand what you speek off ...

sorry but dont see it

now carb kleen will leave a film that i know cause i just spray my hands to test it.
maby thats what you speek off ?

Hey there's nothing wrong with this method. I've cleaned my clutches this way for the last 3 years and I still have 7 fingers left!!

Marc, Most aftermarketers recommend acetone over Brake Kleen because it can push dirt into any pits that you can not see with the naked eye. Where as acetone will evaoprate and clean almost instantly...BBY

Thanks guys...with the ACETONE what..?

Do you just pour/spray the stuff into the primary and leave it for a few minutes? Then what spray it off with a hose? Sorry guys, I need some technique here...

Guys maybe you misunderstood me here...I need to clean the inner parts of the clutch...not the sheaves. I know how to clean the sheaves. I am looking to get all the belt dust out from the inside of the spider clutch where a rag/sandpaper etc. cannot reach. Can I use ACETONE there as well?

well why did you not say so ;)
meat ball

anyways you take your cover off
and spray brake kleen on it ,, once done you can spray with air or keep spraying it till its clean
i use about 2 cans per clutch i like them realy clean ....

just us brake kleen man its easy and fast
:p

but you can do like mighty rx1 said
put on rag and wash your face lol

Brake Clean

Definitely Brake Clean and a good air compressor to blow the residue away. Just put some paper towels under the clutch to absorb most of the run off. I have been using it for years with great results and it is cheap.
