Clutch experts, Aluminum Windage Plates?

less air being pumped by rotating clutch is free hp. to the track. downside is less cooling as the ribs are covered.

If you're clutching is setup correctly you can add them with no change in the heat of your clutches. Now if your clutches start off hot to begin with and you put the plates on you'll be looking at even hotter temps and belt failure.

Thanks Mr A U.
What is the plus side? any MPH?
I got em hanging up in my garage and just wonder if I should put em on my Apex

1000' radar run will show a 3-5 mph gain for most general applications. I like to run them on my own personal sleds.

It should be noted that this was under optimum conditions tested on back to back runs with a sled that was set up for speed running. There was a 4.x amount of gain on average after doing 3 runs with and 3 without.

So it is just secondary correct? 3-5 is HUGE.
You make carbon fiber ones?
You should sell them/ how much would you sell them for?
When will you have Apex clutch kits?

Yes, just on the secondary.

I have had several sets stamped out of carbon fiber. I'd have to research more into how much it would cost for a set in a "production" type run.

When will you have Apex clutch kits?
Apex clutching will be available sometime in late September/ear October when we get a chance to complete all testing. We will have several options for the Apex model next year. Clutch kits (likely 3 different stages), air filters with a efi controller and clutching, and superchargers. All of these items will be finalized around the time I posted above.

Do the Apex's not come with windage plates? My SRX had them from the factory.

Vice, the 4-strokes haven't came with windage plates. Both the RX & RS were without them, so I would assume the Apex will also not have them.

Allen - I know the Apex is a new sled, but did the clutches generaly run cool enough on the RX1s to use windage plates? It seems like adding them would be a cheap gain in most conditions - am I missing something?

Thanks

Bill

The ones you can get for the TEAM clutches are plastic, approx 1/16th thick. Using a circle guide or even a router circle fixture you could make them easy and cheap.

Great idea. Heck, I'm sure we could use a light aluminum, like flashing, as well to make 'em. Anyone sure the 4 strokes won't build up too much clutch heat with the plates on? My old V-Max 600 twin even came with them standard. Must be a reason Yamaha doesn't put them on the 4's. How about venting the clutch guard? That should take care of it, right??

you can easily make them yourself out of aluminum or plastic. the temps will probably rise slightly but as was mentioned before, if alignment is correct you shouldent have any problems. venting the clutch guard is also cheap, easy, and effective.
