Clutch Kit Questions. Who is running what and why?

bender has the rat weights suppose to be very good putting 12 horsepower to the ground
They're supposed to be good but don't forget you need the traction to get it to the ground plus you should change to 14.5 rollers and the black Heekclicker spring. All in all about the same price as a complete clutch kit with weights, primary & sec spring + a helix. I am torn between 2-speeds , Dnf's, Rats or a complete Ulmer kit though.

Do you know what rate the black heelclicker spring is?
Trying to peice together a low engagement clutch setup. 14.5 rollers will bring the engagement down alot. looking at where to start with the primary spring and rivets in the stock weights.
Come on guys...tell your setups.
these parts are cheap if you go the manufactors (Dalton, etc.). 3 of these rollers can be had for $80, springs ~$30, etc. Helixes are more...around $130.
The black spring is a 140/400.
Regardless of what kit if any, I'm putting in the 14.5 rollers for starters.

Smelter: I'm sure you saw my post on what I am running. I have an XTX so I have pretty heavy weights all ready. The 14.5 rollers and blue pink blue spring seem to work well. If you have a short track you have lighter weight that won't bring the engagement down as much.

I finally got the time to install my Schimidt Brothers clutch kit. I think I've figured out why Chris named it the "Comfort" clutch kit... After following the straight forward install I loaded my Nytro into my trailer and it engaged smoothly and "comfortably"... ;)

I used to "launch" into the trailer ramp but it was completely different. I drove up the ramp just like my son's Polaris XCF 440. Nice and smooth!

Now all we need is some snow to see how it performs on the trail!

What are you seeing on top end? Speed & RPMS?K

As soon as it snows I will let you know... This winter sucks so far!!!

HA! You too! I have enough miles on to say the Nytros will blow the panels off the new Kitty Cat 800's. They are clutching heavy now...so I need something to stay ahead.

An update on the clutching, I like the low engagement of the BPB spring, but it seems slow shift out. I put in a Orange Pink Orange that has the same preload (Engagement RPM) but a higher spring rate (quicker shift out). I am going to do a little testing tomorrow moring. I will let you know, good, bad, or otherwise.

Schlick I found just he 14.5 roller change out very satisfactory. Very smooth engagement and same shift. I think I'd look at a 47 degree helix and 80 wrap instead of spring change. There's a ton of combos you do with the springs but it add$ up after awhile.

SIT REP! Whats the word?

I went back to stock weights (60.3g/e) and put a Y/P/Y spring in with a 45/39 helix. Pretty fantastic! Engages around 3100, pulls the whole way thru, top end was hitting 100 on gauge (bad snow cond.). Just waiting on some snow to test a straight 39 helix. If that works...then a P/P/P spring.

PS. I've heard smaller rollers (14.5) have a tendency to hang up...any truth?

Ok I'm new to Ty here and this thread got my attention,
I'm curious as to the smaller rollers vs a heavier weight with a more aggressive shift curve, for example heavy hitters, seems to me like that would be the better way. To me the bigger rollers would handle the load forces better than the smaller ones.
I think what we are accomplishing with smaller rollers is the stock weight is heavier where it contacts the roller, thus lowering enguagement quicker shift out ect.
There are a lot of ways to skin a cat but it seems to me that there would more benefit to running a heavier weight stock spring and rollers.
Just some thoughts..

Stock XTX weight are about as heavy as you can go. I was trying one thing at a time. Schmidt Brothers know there stuff and I was just trying to build there kit. I am willing to play with stuff to learn how it works. All the guys that have tried this and then messed with weights, almost always go back to the stock weights(on a XTX). Canoehead, Apexman, and me have all been playing with this roller spring thing. Oh, I think I can offically add Kurtasaurus80 to the list. I think i have the primary where I want it, and I think a helix is next on my adjenda. The Genisis engine is a monster, I just want to get it all to the ground as best I can. BTW mattk, where are you from?

schlick, mattk is from central iowa (des moines area) as am I...my 09 xtx is in his garage, parts all over the place while we changed my exhaust doughnut gaskets. i thought i would check out some clutching options...matt has clutched many sleds but this would/will be his first 4 stroke so i/we are learning as we go...i saw this thread and showed him and we began to discuss options...thanks for all your feedback...

THINK SNOW!!!!

Just blew the crap out of a Ultimax 3 belt??? Wot on the lake about 90 and she let go. Other then that I think the rollers and yellow pink yellow spring is pretty close.
