Clutch kits - real world results?!?

I agree completely SRXracer which is why I made the comment about people wanting to make it simple by buying a kit. You are correct, with the kit should come instructions on suspension settings as well as the minimum number of studs needed to harness the HP increase. Or at a minimum a warning that if you don't stud you will not benefit from the kit. rather loose performance.

The rpm's seem to be creeping up a little each 200miles or so we put on them. Our rpm's were similar before the clutch kit. It was warmer the time before the kit and I think we were both in the 10400 range. If the rpm's go up much more on our sleds I think I am going to add a little more tip weight to mine.

If I put a Turbo on my sled and don't increase my traction and I go out and get beat and blame the Turbo manufacture and post it I'm wrong. It's my responcibility to adjust my sled when I increase the power not teh aftermarket company.

I've been snowmobile racing for a lot of year I can tell you this the most important thing when it comes to winning is getting every once of HP to the ground and when it gets there keeping your track from spinning. The Guy that comes out of the whole hardest usually wins. You spin the track 1 time it's one length spin it six that's six lengths.

Now that the cat is out of the bag that it's Ulmers kit. I can tell all of you that I spoke with bluebyyou2000 about this very kit. He has a RTX and his brother in law has a GT. Stock for stock they run right with each other. After installing Allen's kit he walks the GT with ease. So there is a different assessment of the Ulmer racing KIT. Maybe Matt has better traction the SRXracer???

Dude...1 simple answer. You balance hp; traction & clutching, You do this & you win races.Run just enuff engagement to hook up. Load the clutches to shift at max torque at holeshot running up to max hp at top end with out slipping the belt. This si why each individual sled is different due to studs(or no studs) rider weight & modifications(hp).I have seen 700 srx with basically stock clutching (primary weights loaded to the nutz with big engagement notches) kick some a$$ at races.

These are the same results I got which I posted on page 2 of this topic.Doesn't bluebyyou2000 matt sell clutch kits for simons cpr at the speedshop. He must be a honest man to admit the ulmer clutch kit works so well.I had a kit from the speedshop last year on my 2005 rx1 and it rocked too.

Yes he did check out his post on the bottom of page 2.Like he said it could be traction or another issue with his sled or the installation.

Hmm we went 3 pages to determine that clutching gets your most gains when you have better traction? Sounds like a not very funny episode of Mr. Obvious from the Bob and Tom show...

What does it matter what he sells. If something works well you tell the truth. THat makes you a good person!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ORC

I have the one with the clutch kit in it that srx racer is talking about.I did change the wieght and it feels better. But Im not sure if its worth 389.00 for no increase.I think you guys are right on about traction but at a 50mph rollon no track spin and no studs you would think it would catch on topend.Less rotating mass. Its seems like a good kit and Im taking it off yet but advertised 5 to 6 sled links is a dream.

Fourload, i did not say what i was running. What i said in the post on the bottom of page 2 was that the GT i talked about beating in my first post had an ulmer 2 kit in it. I was running all stock at the time.

Anyways guys, we all know traction is major issue with snowmobiles, so lets not beat a dead horse here. Maybe there is something else going on in my sled that i don't know about, maybe it just runs exceptionally well stock? I don't know. Bottom line is, i've raced snowmobiles for quite a few years too, and i am pretty sure my chassis set up isn't that far off. I really do think yamaha hit the nail pretty close to the head with this one. And i guess all i can say is those were the results we got on that day in that field. I am going to keep working (as soon as i get back from florida) to see what i else i can find out. I still think, like Mike said, until these sleds get broken in completely, alot of people may be seeing "artificial" gains against stockers that may dissappear once the stockers break in and run the right numbers - time will tell i guess.

1chopper, i wanted to stop by and talk this week but i ran outta time. I would love to get together with you and JB when i get back from florida after the first and see if we can figure anything else out.
