I was going to put a shim(washer) in clutch to bring the belt up a little. The clutch looks cracked? look a pic and tell me if this is normal? the belt side looks fine.

That is not a problem. All my Yamaha secondaries has been like that. But if the inside of clutcheds have impurities, cracks or are not smooth you should be conserned.

I have once seen a primary clutch where impurities had got into the casting process making tiny holes like bubbles in the sheave. This was not discovered until sled had some miles and belt dust filled these holes, it then became apparent. Such production flaws are covered under warranty. This is not a common problem as far as I know.

Looks normal to me,and you have no shims behind your bolts neither, whats up yammi,on my 03 i had like 2 sets.

mmsnowbeast,
I put 1 shim on each plus the 1 that was on it. mine were silver, so it looks like there is not.

They come with a 1.0 on each. If you are going to add a shim try a .5 shim as another 1.0 shim will make a big diff. Some times with a new belt you need to take the 1.0 out and put the .5 in or they will squeel. Yamaha does have the .5's but some dealer's will need to look for them as they are not aware of the .5's kviper

i added 1, now have 2 in each. belt sits just a little higher than the clutch. I hoisted it up and ran it. belt didn't squeal & track didn't move when I let it idle. I think it's just right. I'll have to try it tomorrow in the new snow(it's been freezing rain into snow the past hr.).
supposed to get hit tonight & tomorrow.
