Sorta looking for clutching concepts...

Example:
Lets say your drag racing a couple different weekends...

One weekend your all chiseled up on ice with wicked traction.
The next weekend you are racing on snow w/no studs & poor traction.

What would be the general changes in clutching that would need to take place? ie. rpm - weight changes, helix, gearing etc..

ie. would you put in a shallower starting angle on your helix to help with spinning on a poor traction track? Steeper?

Thanks Tony

Lets use an apex for example.
On snow i want 4 k engagement; holeshoting at 10k rpm,s & slowly climbing to 10600ish

Picked track I would set it up
4500 engaement or even higher
Holeshotting at 10,400 rpm& climbing

For good traction i would use either a shallower helix with stock secondary spring or a steeper helix with a secondary spring with more side pressure.

Your tach is a good basic tool for achieving this.

Thanks Turk, I was hoping you'd have some input.

Doesn't matter if it's a front mount right?

Tony

I clutch a turbo the same way I do a normally aspirated sled except. All the ones i have set up have performed very well in sanctioned events.

If a guy is running 1000ft on snow would you want to gear up? I'm presently up one tooth at 24/38 I'm thinking I should go ahead & put a 25 in the top..?

1000' is less then 1/4 mile. Theres that university degree kicking in! Anyway in 1000' i would leave the gearing stock. In 660' with 14 pounds boost I ran a lot lower gearing then that.

turk what about 12lbs and 800-900 ft.gonna try 23/38.do you think it will run out of gear?

I'm really struggling with the gearing thing.. According to the .xls gear chart that I got off this sight, w/a primary clutch RPM of 8700, a 23/38 at 1:1 ratio gives a speed of 113, 24/38 gives 118.. But I see guys posting all over this site that they are seeing well over 130 w/24/38...! What gives??? How much over drive do the aftermarket helixes give? Cause it doesn't sound like these guys are cutting their clutches...
