OK, I tried to upload a poor pic of my old 15000 mile ripsaw w/ the washers under the studs. Sorry it doesn't really show much. The main thing is the heads need to be raised up about 1/16" inside the track to be effective, at least on my 05 venture. The physics could be different for different sleds. It really did significantly reduce track howl. Those ripsaws are tough tracks. About 1/4 of the studs had ripped out after 15000 but it was still going strong!

You are fortunate to have not thrown a stud into your heat exchanger. At 6000 miles, I was not so lucky.....ruined a trip in progress plus 2 more. For me, no studs ever again....I slow down.

Yes, my heat exchanger had a couple shallow dings, but no holes. That's why I decided to go studless this time with the quiet track.

I asked them about the Quiet track when I first called and he said it is not recommended as it can cause vibration on hard pack. I pressed him on whether it actually makes a noticeable difference and he stated that other customers have reported the problem going from unacceptable to manageable and or only slightly annoying. Hard to go off that, but I am a little desperate at this point. Or just sell the thing and find something else that doesn't do it as much. I see they have a new Viper with the optional two up seat, I wonder how track noise is on those.
I moved from a Vector (yes, I had this issue) to a Viper. Night and day difference. The Viper does not have this issue. I think you can get improvement by loosening the track, and maybe by moving the wheels around, but I don't think you can make it go away. On the other hand, it's more tolerable over 50mph, so just go faster!

Thanks, I am considering trying that or going the route of trying the Cobra track. I am trying to find more real world experiences with the Cobra first. Haven't made up my mind, winter here in MN has been nothing short of terrible for snowmobiling, so I ma y just wait until next year to make a move on something. I also may look into the VIPER with the extra seat, as SounderMN said above that they do not have the problem. I hate to dump more money into it, but I suppose being that the VIPER is a new design it won't be outdated for quite some time.
