Well first of all..how much does a 2-stroke motocross cost to a 4-stroke motocross bike..4-stroke has more parts..They are different in price..there is way more material like 1-2 more cylinders, valves etc, on the 4-stroke sled..and the strong front end and the strong frame..this all adds up the price..They put fuel injection on 2-smoke..and the price went up..For me..trails 4-stroke..Mountains 2-stroke..Just get a sled and ride.

Thanks & great advise. When a 4-stroke enters the picture that's doable, I'll pull the trigger but for now, the ride on the snow is what we all have in common, no matter what's under the hood.

You shouldn't rob a bank to get a 4 stroke because prison sucks, or so I hear.
But you should go procure one by legal means because iti is a whole new sledding experience.

The 2-stroke triple yamahas are great sleds, no doubt. Four-stroke prices are probably so high because the engine is designed to outlive the chassis where as with a two-stoke, it is the reverse.
Depending on your riding style, you should know the 4-strokes have one drawback: weight. Most of the time you'll never notice but when you do, its there big time. I really like my sled but with every pound I take off I like it more.
I rode around on an ET410 for years before being able to "buy" a new yamaha. (I won't get a loan for any purchase, just save $ and buy with cash).
My advice, stay well within your budget (leaving room for maintenance costs like bearing/bushing replacement), 2-stroke or 4-stroke take your time finding the right deal, then get out and enjoy the ride.

These things cost more because Yamaha has set a price that market will bear for a premium product. Why does a Yukon Denali cost more than a Suburban, and an Escalade cost more than both? Its becasue thats what the market will bear. Leather seats, a fancy grill, fancy radio, slightly bigger engine, and fancy wheels is really all it amounts to.
I set aside coin for over a year and sold my 2001 ski-doo 600 to pay for a new-to-me '06 Apex GT for $4200 last February. Its a great machine and I think I did well for what I paid.
Amsnow Feb 2010: "BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac, whatever automotive correlation works best, this is the place in our market that Yamaha has positioned itself with its new line of snowmobiles. With an ever more competitive, shrinking marketplace Yamaha is solidly carving out the high-end, quality and luxury piece of the snowmobile market's pie."

For new prices this is just the world we live in. Yamaha will demand a lot for new sleds. BMW, Cadillac, etc are costly also.
For used prices it's simple economics. Used prices only reflect what the secondary market will bear. 4 strokes I believe hold their value higher and for longer. It's good if you own a used 4 stroke. It sucks when you want to buy one.
But if you look around in the secondary market there are deals to be found on used sleds, even 4 stroke ones.

Is it me or is this thread a complete waste of time and energy for all concerned. The answer was given in the first few responces. Seems more like a troll to me than a legit post.

Thanks & that's so true on those makes of autos & how Yamaha sets the price based on the demand for their product. I'm sure somewhere along the way a decent used one will come up & I'll be all over it. Right now, where I'm located, the RX1's are the closest to what I can afford so the search continues.
