Back in 04 I sold my 02 viper (with M-10 and fix power sports king cobra kit) and got an 05 RX1. Then in 05 sold the RX1 and got the 06 Apex GT. Well after only being able to ride 1400 miles in 2 seasons and making 216 dollar a month payments, I sold my Apex. Then I went and paid 2700 cash for a super nice 02 viper with an M-10. I am going to catch a lot of $hit from my riding friends for going back to a 2 smoke but, I am actually looking forward to riding it. I will miss the rider forward, the low exhaust noise and smell and the power of the FI 150 Hp motor. I will not miss the inside ski lift, changing the oil filter, no hood, and worry about problems (chain case, shock wire, hand warmers etc...) BUT MOST of all I will NOT miss the payment. Paid cash for the viper. It cost me $3.52 a mile to ride the GT and that's just the payment, no maintenance, gas etc... figured in. I feel the Viper, SRX,SX etc... just handle so much better. Yes the Apex is faster in a straight line and rides way better than the ol No action but, there were some nice things about the 2 smokes. I plan to run Klotz or some other low smoke oil. Going to be a good winter with lots of snow is my prediction!!! "crossing my fingers and toes!!!"

Yes I could.
Where are you located in Appleton.
I'm about 3 miles nw of the fox river mall.

Over in Darboy off N coop rd. If you are interested in riding with us this year let me know. We have 3 camps available for use depending on snow. One is 10 west of Antigo, one just south of Aurora and one in the UP just south of shingleton (Munising). We are always looking for more sleds to throw on the trailer and split fuel cost. We also have each guy bring something for meals. I normally cover breakfast, one guy covers snacks or a dinner etc... We usually start early and ride till like 4-5 pm, we normally don't sit and drink until the last stop close to camp.
I tweaked the M-10 for aggressive trail riding with more ski pressure (shortened the limiter strap). I am really looking forward to riding a sled that handles like a slot car again!!! Atleast I hope it does.

Yes I would be game.
My parents have a place 20mins north of reilander about 10 mins from st germain on sled.

I tried to do what you just did, sold my RTX and bought a 04 Viper S with an M-10 last year. I couldn't hack the smoke and bought an Attak. The last of my buddies got out of the sport so I Peddled the Attak and got a Rage for almost half the price (I've been sledding too long not to have a sled setting in my shop). Installed an apex seat, raised the bars and it now feels like the Attak. It has a hood I can lift making everything accessable. Gets better milage and up to about 100 I really can't feel the difference between the two. At my age I really don't need the top end anymore :ORC
PS On the 3-holer you can get to the oil filter by simply removing that access panel undneath ;)!

Mighty,
Yes I was thinking about a rage but, I just couldn't pass on the viper. Also I didn't want to borrow any money. So after paying my daughters college tuition and my sons medical insurance for 4 months my savings account would only support 2700 for the Viper...besides the red matches my Yami riding gear and helmet! LOL Donahues in Wi Rapids has an 05 rage with I think 3100 miles asking 5800. I think the 5800 is a bit high. But, you don't see many rages for sale so maybe it's not?
Pro116,
I'll PM you some info.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :4STroke:

I toyed with this, I had the same thing as you viper that was just way to much fun, sold for no good reason other then to get a 4 stroke that I wouldn't have to worry about rebuilding every 5K, come to find out yamaha 2 strokes don't need rebuilding every 5K more like 10K or more. (mine had 3900 miles on it)

The RX has enough goodies on it now that it better handle as good as the viper, be more comfortable and be the fastest in the pack across the lake. I should have a dream sled now. I'll wait till the winter to make this determiniation. One thing is for sure its rebuilt from tunnel up by me, with new bushings, bolts, wireing, etc anything that might cause me a issue. This will be a good sled for a lot of years and I just pray to everything holy it handles like my viper. If it does what I hope then no I will never go back to stroke.

Have fun with the viper, and never make a payment on a snowmobile again, if you can't pay cash for it dont buy it.

NO,i could not go back, buying oil, the smell, not to mention the stink i have made about the four stroke's benefits to all my riding buddies the last four years the flak would be unbareable, lol

I honestly dont think i could.. Two strokes dont have the wide power band of a 4 stroke and are almost annoying to me in some aspects.. (exept the lack of engine braking)

I will say this.. two years ago i had my brand new apex gt, and my buddy had a 03 viper with revalved shocks..

Needless to day he is now riding a 07 nytro.. it doesnt handle as good, but rides alot better and is alot easier on the back..

The probelm is the chasis configuration why people prefer the 4 stroke, it's more comfortable.
Put a boss highrise seat and a pivot riser like the pic in my avatar and it rides just like the new 4 strokes do.Yes you do have the oil smell but that's why you use good oil and this sled gets 17 mpg.

Cat Hunter,
We are talking yami 2 smokes here!! I don't remember the yami 700 triple having to many melt down problems. As far as ride...when I went from the 02 viper with an M-10 to the 05 RX1 with Mono I felt the ride quality was equal. I will catch alot of flak too. I remember one night getting stuck behind a large group of 2 smokes in the woods and I was just a complaining away to myself in my helmet because the smell and smoke was hanging in the air burning my eyes. I will let ya all know after this season. But if I put 216 bucks a month into this sled for the next year it's way cheaper than 10 grand for a new 4 stroke. I know... I know.... don't buy new find a low mileage 2 year old sled and let someone else take the big hit. But then you don't know what problems you are inheriting. We will see.... my memory of riding may have faded. Some of you may remember I high sided my bike at Road America and had surgery last October to fuse a disc in my back. So the doctors said no snowmobiling last year. What a good year to be told that with the lack of snow last year!
