Could you go back to a 2 stroke?

Yamaha probabally made the best 2-strokes ever. Phazer motor is famous for being super reliable, and the triples are known for being super engines as well, and best sounding of all triples, so even though your going back to two stroke, at least its quality and not just a leaned out chainsaw motor.

With that said, I dont think I could go back to the narrow powerband of a twostroke, and all the warming up and off tuning a two stroke gives if its not totally warm, etc, due to pipe temps. No more constantly adding oil is very nice as well, and the oil changes are nothing, just take your time and you can change the filter and oil very nicely. From total start to finish taking my time, I got it done in under 2 hours, with all the panels back on. Its not as bad as some people think.

But preety much, as long as its a yamaha, going 2 stroke or 4stroke isnt that bad. Id prefer 4strokes though.. :4STroke:

Well the post is two stroke no brand mentioned but I ride my Cat two stroke every winter. All 1000cc of it and I pin it for miles at a time.

My four stroke is my favorite and having to choose I would say four stroke all the way.

I still have one...2001 sx600r that smokes like a chimney. Wifes sled and she wont let me upgrade her to a 4-stroke. But then again she never road the turbo sled or my new rtx.

I am guessing when she rides the rtx I will be stuck with the sx600r. Then MAYBE I will talk her into two 4-strokes.

Probably always keep the smoker around for my son and for dad to abuse in the ditches of Iowa.

I have no desire to ride my SRX any more. It corners better than anything on the snow. The power from a big 2stroke tripple buts a smile on my face, butttttttttttttt the gas and go w/ my 06 Attak makes me grin. as my buddies are prepping their sleds for the day of riding I can hang out in the room for another 20-30 mins. I can eat my oatmeal. Dring my juice have another cup of coffee or just hang out.

I could go to a 2 stroke, if I felt that the positives outweighed the negatives. I like the benefits of four strokes though.

I could not go to a Viper/SRX ect. Rode one last year for a few and really disliked it. I like riding standing up a lot and its next to impossible on that chassis. The new Nytro is pretty much the sled I've been waiting for Yamaha to build. I loved my Attak, don't get me wrong, it's a superior sled to most out there in many ways. But the new Nytro's are it.

Ya all good points!!!! Ok... I need someone from the Fox Valley area to purchase a New nitro and then ride it oh 1700 miles in the next 2 seasons...then sell it to me for just under half of what you paid for it!!! Sounds like a plan to me. I'm not disputing the benefits of a 4 stroke just wish they didn't cost 10 grand. That's a lot of tuition at UW for my daughter..LOL

YUP 10 G's is alot to swallow. Thats why I am on my 06 and not a new 08.

With kids in the picture I am sure you can find other areas for that money to go.

One could say the same thing about that R1... To each his own. If left to choose between a Viper and other like year models it certainly wouldn't be near the top for me, but it might be for you, and that's ok.

I could go back to a two stroke. 2001 SXR 700 would be my choice with CPR pipes and some other minors things. Those 700 NP motors are bulletproof. Only thing the old triples lack was suspension. Great for powder and climbing hills. I don't see the big thing with the 2 stroke smell either i happen to like the smell of klotz in the morning. 4 strokes may not smoke but they still have a smell to them when you get off at the end of the day. I bought a yamaha 4 stroke to be different then the rest of my riding group not because it didnt smoke. :yam:

Yamahnator,
Everyone has their likes and dislikes. Before 4 strokes I thought there was only one sled made SRX's. Then I got the RX1 then the Apex. Now I am getting a bit older and things are changing FOR ME. I am happy just to be out with friends and riding. But, I don't want to get beat up by the moguls and I like going fast in the twisties. So to each there own. Ya my new R1 is a really bad investment just like a new car or sled, it's awesome on the track though.. I changed my aviator to my new bike that I got last year. What didn't you like about the viper, besides the no action suspension?

Well to me the suspension was like you say, "no action." But I imagine an M10 would improve things drastically. I'm 6'1" and the sled just felt scrunched. I couldn't find a comfortable riding position. I've ridden one with the seat raised a bit and that was a little better but I just felt that my knees were above my elbows. If I were to pick a sled from that era I'd probably go with a ProX. I liked them back in the day, but don't care for what they offer now.

Like I said though people like different things. Like Mighty going from an attak to a rage. I wouldn't care for it, but it's something that agrees with him so go for it. Any motorsports is a bad investment =).

Nope I like my 06 Gt and If i got to go under the hood I would get rid of it LOL why do u need to go under the hood if u want to maintain or change oil etc just do it on a off day u dont ride IMO.I love the 4-stroke no smell reliabilty, gas mileage, looks, etc These things have long legs I like fast long wide trails and this sled has been great.I have only had two yamahas 03 rX-1 and the 06 GT Rx-1 was heavy IMO and I spent alot of money on gadgets and extras to make it what i wanted and it never was and then tried a 06GT in 06 and the rest is history.I hate rideing a friends loud, noisy, smoky, sled.Everything is expensive these days maybe dont buy a 08 or 07 get a 06 there are always good deals to be had u may have to look but there there and u could have a high end sled for about the same as 2-smoke :yam: :4STroke: :4STroke: :rocks:
