When reading several posts and the possibility of the exhaust pipe that is routed around and under the fuel tank causing a fire, I thought of a possible solution to this occurance.

Ceramic coatings have been used for many years now on parts to control heat. If to contain heat within a part or shield a part/parts from a heat generating device, this coating really does work.

Swain Tech Coating in New York has such a product. Coating the exhaust pipe and the related shields around the fuel tank would greatly help. See this link. http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=10969

exhaust isn't anywhere near the gas tank - it's in the tunnel and exits under the seat - nice try tho - wonder how long before a mod deletes this post.

Wooly your thinking of a Nytro.Phazer is not in the tunnel and is between the tank and tunnel with 4 layers of protection in most areas under the tank.Fibre sheet,Aluminum guard, steel guard, foil heatshield on tank itself.

I'm missing something here. Why would the post be deleted?

Given some of the simple minds that are on this forum, I should have been more specific on the word "exhaust". Exhaust refers to anything past the exhaust port that carries the exhaust gases from the cylinder to the outside area of the sled. Does that help Wooly?

To answer your question Ricketts, some simple minds don't like when a new idea doesn't come from themselves.

Just offering some fresh idea's. The application of a thermal barrier on the exhaust system would not hinder performance or handling of the sled in any shape or form. Not quite sure on how the ceramic coating would work on the flex area. Ceramic material is very tough/brittle and does NOT flex. Dan Swain has many products and applications. Best call him with the idea of coatiing the flex area and see what he comes up with.

Heck, the consistency of the exhaust temps may even help build some power. Again, a question for Dan Swain.

Really? The Phazer exhaust is about 1" below the gas tank. Yamaha has several layers of shielding but the material on the heat shield becomes brittle and falls off. It is a good idea to wrap the entire front section of the exhaust with a quality exhaust wrap. I also added another layer on top of the shielding and below the tank. I think the main issue is not heat but fire. If the manifold comes loose form the head, flames will shoot out of the opening. No matter how much shielding is there its going to melt the plastic tank because the flames will naturally shoot upwards. Phazer goes boom boom.

I smell fuel when I idle for too lang which Ive figured is heat from the exhaust system heating the fuel tank due to it (wether sheilded or not) being what I feel is VERY close to the tank. I haven't wrapped mine yet cause I'm selling it but think every heat related measure is a pretty good idea. Ceramic coating works VERY well from my past experience.

While ceramic coating your exhaust on the phazer will gain power and lower temps under the tank, the power gain won't be noticeable and the heat is not the problem. The problem is when a leak is introduced to the exhaust under the tank and this will do nothing for that. I run a turbo and it has gotten hot enough to actually melt the header wrap on the pipe. I have the front hole closed and have ridden quite a bit including water skipping with the pipe unwrapped. I think ceramic coating is great and would love to have my exhaust and hot side ceramic coated. Having said all of that, I think this is a poor attempt to sell ceramic coating as a fix for a problem that it will not and can not fix. Just my 2 cents. ;)!

I myself was just thinking the same thing last weekend. Took mine apart to check the exhaust gaskets. And was thinking I should have the two piece heat shield over the flex joints coated. Wouldnt hurt it any! At least stop some of the heat from rising and baking the plastic and rubber parts above it (including the tank).

so the flex pipe seems to be a big problem ive never had mine apart to look at it but couldnt u bring the sled to a muffler shop or something and have them make something out of regular exhaust pipe so u dont have to have the flex pipe

To answer some questions:

1) If you ever want to be taken seriously on this site again, I'd keep the slander to a minimum. Can't wait for those who are quick with insults to need help from the group, only to be ostracized because of past offenses.

2) The reason that the post should be and probably will be pulled is because it specifically mentions a business that is not a supporter of TY4stroke.

3) Due to the amount of lateral and medial flex of a rubber mounted motor, you need some element of flex in the exhaust. Another method may be the wire mesh flex pipes they use on transversely mounted front wheel drive cars.
