I have a 2009 Nytro M-TX with a 153" track, I still have the stock Maverick track on it. I use the sled as an 'off trail' fun flatland sled, as well as a hound hunting rig for pulling my dogs around in the winter to get closer to the cats. Anyway, now that the season is coming to a close after an un-naturally low snow fall year, I am thinking of taking the track down from 2.25". Wondered if anyone has any advice on lug length as I think that 2.25" is likely too long.

I never go to the mountains to strictly ride sleds, we mainly use the sleds there for cat hunting, but the majority of the time we are in the flat lands of Saskatchewan.

My 10 XTX came with the 1.25 Rip saw, that wasn't enough so changed to a 1.75 back country and that was all I needed in the 10/11 winter, and I hope we get back to somewhere near that for snow next winter.
I'm not sure what your options are the 153 length.
And I feel your pain with the amount of snow so far this not winter, one ride this year so far and hauled to Preeceville to find enough snow for that.

I would go to 1.75". The XTX's seem to do alright with that size lug track so I would guess that would work for you.

What are your options with a 153.
The guys around here that cut their mavericks to 1.75 right off the get go had them break up faster than the guys that left them alone.

I cut down a new 162" x 2.25" ascent to 1.75" this year with good success so far. Easy on sliders and decent off trail.

I was thinking 1.75, still gives me enough lug for when we are playing in the deep snow, and it might make the lugs stiff enough to throw a bit more snow on the heat exchanger as well. Thats why I want to cut it down. When we do go to the mountains, we aren't riding fast as we are looking for cat tracks, not sledding the deep stuff. I got this nytro as a replacement for my old tundra, and it hauls my dogs in the toboggan pretty decent in deep snow, just not great on hard or 'slushy' type snow

I ended up cutting my stock Mavric down to a 2" maybe a touch less & it seems to hold up well. Then when I want to do alot of off trail I put the 2.6 PC on.

I cut the 2" Maverick to 1.5" on my Phazer and it really stiffened the lugs up and while I didn't notice much of a loss in the powder, Braking, traction, and slide wear improved quite a bit on trails/packed snow. The last 1/2" on the Mavericks basically folds over anyhow under power or braking.
