The riding season is over for me. Post season inspection reveals the PB80'S in both sleds are good to go for next year.
Sometimes the governor cup is difficult to nudge loose by hand, mainly because it's such a snug fit on the shaft. As a result, I fashioned some rolling-wedge pry bars to gently loosen the cup. I doesn't take much; just a wiggle and off it comes. I used some key stock and old bearing races that were laying in my pile. I cut the races to shape, then tig welded them to the key stock. A dash of powder coat and that's it!

This is all great news and a rally helpful write up. Did some pto noise stay but ALL the clutch rattle went away by the end of your experimenting?

Hi,I'm going to experiment with different weights in the pucks for my Apex this winter. Unfortunately, there was no room left for additional weight; maxed out.
I contacted CV Tech and they sent me the pictured heavy slugs. They are machined to fit inside the hole on the face of the puck and extend beyond the normal slug bearing area, giving me the extra weight capacity.
I updated the current calibration figures, for both sleds, in post 17 above.

I know this is an older post, but do you have the CV-Tech part numbers for the deep dish weights for your Apex? I have two sleds running the CV-Tech clutches: one in a 1992 Polaris RXL 650 EFI and another in a 1993 Arctic Cat Prowler 440 LC. Both work very well with minimal tuning. Now, I'm looking at this clutch for my 2006 Apex ER.

At 10,000 miles the original clutch had a lot of wear and needed replacement. First thing I notice is it's quiet. The engagement is so smooth that I can drive on my trailer rather than launch on to it. I added one set of pucks to lower the rpm a little. Fuel milage seems better than the original clutch. This is the best thing you can buy for a stock Yamaha.

Hi dangrs,I just got my first 300 miles with a PB 80 on my 2016 STX 146 DX Viper. If I could go back in time I would have put this clutch on when I bought the sled new. I installed the cvtech powerbloc 80 on my 14 Viper xtx. Out of the box I'm banging off the rev limiter big time, had a top rpm of 9365 and not getting full shift.(max speed 65 mph) Obviously I need to add some weight, but can't find any information as to what rpm increase/decrease will be realized by adding/subtracting 1 weight/slug per block. I took the clutch apart today, there are 7 of the 5.7 gram weights per block. Do you recall how many weights per block you have? I was thinking of adding 2 more for a total of 9 per block.

I had seven weights. It was running at 9200 at 85 mph. I added one set and I'm at 8800. I haven't run it in all conditions yet. It never was fast at the top end. 89 or 90 is the best I remember on a hard packed lake. I was just on a loose railroad bed and the best I got was 86 at 8800. I'm not going to change anything to try to get more top end because it's too rare of an occasion to need more.Hi dangrs,

If I were you I would only add one set of weights. I would also check to be sure your secondary and beyond is in good shape. Your speed sounds extremely low for that rpm and the same number of weights I was running.

Thank you for your quick responce. One thing I forgot to mention is, I was running the Thunder Products Big Venom kit in the my Yamaha clutch, which was great until it wasn't. I won't get into all details, but I was having primary clutch issues and was getting tired of messing around with it and the constant maintenance, etc. (changing rollers trail side not fun) Anyway, I still have the secondary spring (came with the TP kit) in the secondary, not the OEM spring. I spoke with a tech from where I bought the powerbloc from and he told me to leave it in and make adjustments at the primary. Now I'm wondering if this is the cause of not getting a full shift or if it's indeed just the lack of weight in the primary. I put 2 weights in the powerbloc last night, but based on your results, now I'm thinking one is probably sufficient. Losing 400 rpm would probably be ideal.I had seven weights.
