anyone try the Dimond Drive yet ?
do you consider it cost affective?
can further weight savings be had by relief drilling the rotor?
Is reverse retained?

The problem last year was the Cat shaft not the Diamond Drive. The lack of gearing caused the 04 to be much slower than the 03.

This shaft is part of the Diamond drive... it's got the brake rotor on the opposite end.

Jim, my understanding reading the posts on a CAT site indicate the DD breaks after 1500-2000 miles. Compounding the problem was that Arctic Cat didn't have a sufficient supply of replacement parts so lots of people were pissed.
People did like the system though, and Arctic Cat is rolling out the technology to the FireCat series.
Regardless, here is a past thread on the Diamond Drive.

the specific problem last year was the driveshaft was too small and would break....the '05's have a significantly beefier shaft....it isn't available with reverse yet but is supposed to be available for '06.....what i understand is the takeoff and braking are alot smoother with the DD...plus it saves alot of weight

Just an FYI for those of you who are looking at installing this because you've been told it's more efficient than the chain case, it's been tested & it is less than 2% more efficient than a chain case. Not worth the $$$ IMO.

yeah...they are fine if you are buying an AC but are too expensive to retrofit IMO
