doo 2010 line up - no 1200 turbo or 800etec

I think Yamaha has a solid lineup. Adding FI to the trail friendly Vector was a good thing. As for mileage....I'd put a Yamaha 4 stroke against anyone's two stroke anyday.......the way I ride. We pushed are sleds hard last week in the UP. My Viper has always run good and gets respectable mileage for a 2 smoker. Every time we stopped for gas ,when I'd take 7-8 gallons, the Apex, ATTAK and Nytro that were with me took around 3.3-3.6 gallons from point A to point B. I thought the Nytro would do a hair better than the 4 cylinder Yammies but they were about the same.[/quote]

It's funny..we are always on the gas, so one ride this year, we had to poke from traffic, and I was complaining about my sled coasting more than it used to, and then realized we never ride like this, so I didn't even know how it felt going for a 'normal' criuse...lol

Doo..... They cant improve any more.. they are super light and fast and get the best gas mileage of any of the sleds..

Polaris.... The new sled looks ver cool to me, very interesting.. too bad its only a 600.. I cant believe anyone still buys polaris..

Cat.. they have a 500 Race chassis sled.. Very cool, again too bad its only 88hp.. THere is no room in there for a 800 with FI and an oil pump.

Yamaha.. Well atleast the handle bars are getting better and they have a couple orange sleds.. Still need improving in the handling and weight department..

Welt, I'll disagree every time with Doos getting the best mileage (in my world). They just don't around here. It depends on how you ride. I get 13 to 15 all the time with my apex, and the doo's get 10 or so. They suck gas just like all the rest when running full tilt hedgerow to hedgerow. I guess they are ok for big trail cruising mileage, but not how we ride in farm country.

What kind of doos are you comparing your apex too..(thoe old ones?)

My buddy had a 08 XP 600 that got 21MPG and now has a 09 XP 800R that gets atleast that.. I dont see any yamahas getting anywhere near the 20mpg mark.. I get maybe 14 my brothers Rx-warrior gets 15-16.. the Firecats get 12mpg and the F8 gets 14mpg, and the Crossfire 1000 gets 13-14mpg, 07 Nytro getting 16-17mpg

Any of these mpg numbers you throw out could change no matter what sled brand we are talking about just by changing the DRIVER of the sled. We all ride differently. My uncle gets over 20 mpg on his Vector. If I drove it it would NOT get that kind of mileage. I tend to squeeze the throttle too much. Further more.......I don't check mileage that much. I'm too busy enjoying the FUN of riding. The only time mileage really bothered me was when I had pipes on my Viper. It drank so much gas I needed to always within range of a gas station.

I cant belive you buddys are not getting atleast 16mpg with there 500s.. Ive got two buddies with 07 Mach Zs that are getting 19mpg and blow the doors off my sled..

Im guessing your buddies sleds are jetted too fat..

An 800R that gets 20 mpg? granted I have not even ridden one, but that seems like crazy good mpg for a 800. My 600VES gets 15-16 mpg, but that is a 600.

Seeing is believing.. THose babys get AWSOME gas miles its unbelievable..

Jeepers I have hard time getting 10-12 on my RX the way I drive which is WOT then let off on every corner I just love the acceleration and my shoulders are so sore form holding at the start of the year before i get used it. We did a UP trip and I tried to not do so much WOT and then let off and keep a more consistant RPM and my mileage went right up to 16. The filter kit really is hard on gas if you go WOT stepping up from 120ish mains to 165 on the filter kit!

Welt is correct. I ride with a 08 800R and he consistently takes between a 1.5-2 gallons less to fill his tank than I do when we both start with full tanks. The 08 Nytro I ride with takes about 1 gallon less at fill ups. With that being said I do ride a tad bit harder than these guys. I was amazed at the xp's fuel mileage.

For those talking about 600 and the 500SS fuel mileage, they have to spin those motors alot harder than we do to get an equal speed. I rode a 08 XP TNT and I had to hold the sled pinned the whole time to ride the trail the same speed I would ride my apex at 1/2 - 3/4 throttle.

:yam:

Thats what i dont get, my buddy had a XP 600 TNT last year (which is basically a 500ss carb) and it got 21-22mpg.. and he rode it WOT all the time

Just remember, what you save in gas you will be spending on oil, belts, pistons cranks.....

WOT and he get's 21-22 MPG........sorry but I call either BS or bad math on this one!!! :o|

A friend has a 08 Renegade with the 800. When he's on the throttle on groomed trails, he gets 15 mpg. When he taking it easy, he consistently gets 20+. I kid him about the fact that he must have removed a plug wire and shut off the gas to one cylinder. LOL!!

That's not really fair, welterracer was told there would be no math.

(Sorry Brian, saw the shot, couldn't help myself, forgive me please.) :hide:

Ok then, I guess those 800R's do get good mpg then. Seeing that 3 + guys here on TY say they do get really good mpg is more than enough for me. I have not ridden one, or ridden with anyone that has one.

I just wish they had a better track record for engine longevity.

I never say we ride hard, cuz somebodies always faster. But we almost never get passed, especially on our 'home' turf, where the 20 year old farm boy rides the 500(600) T'NT. He also blew a belt through the belly pan. 10 is the best he ever got. He is selling it, as he thought he'd get far better mileage. I had an MXZ 500 and I got anywhere's from 6mpg to 15, depending on who I rode with. Nothing gets much better than 13 or so riding with us. We (well, there's only three or so that ride with us anymore) didn't put many miles on this year, but we got there real quick..LOL. As an aside, we don't lake race, or continually line up..we save that for our grass/snow dragstrip club events. We plot a course and see who gets left behind... :-o
Also, weight isn't high on our lists of concerns...underbelly reinforcement, amount of weldwire left on the spool, and cell phone reception are the top 3... :jump:
