This is first hand from what I saw this season, we had a few races with some major fast sleds this year, faster then I have seen in the previous season with boosted sleds.. here is a break down of apples to apples with a set up ski doo and a set up arctic, both of these sleds are owned by friends and we did this race over and over through out the winter.
Ted Jannetty built Powderlites stage 2 running 14 lbs boost
Track and drivers changed and stm clutched, L/C pistons
"speeds" Powderlites stage 2 apex, track and drivers, dropped and rolled chaincase, stock clutches, head shimmed
Both @ 14lbs boost. Who ever got the hole shot won, The ski doo seemed to have a bit more surge on the top, but that could have been gearing between the 2
From a roll on, could have held hands from 20mph to 120mph. These two sleds were always consistant with these results
Then raced D&D prepped Z1 Big turbo, head studs, stock clutches, stock gearing, 1" 128 track, everything else 100% stock!
The Z1 Turbo always put 4-6 lengths in 1000" on ice, on snow, didn't matter, always left the other two right off the line and pulled through mid range then ran out of gear at about 800-900 foot. The other 2 would start to gain very slowly.
Now a I don't know who built this, but Russ Horns, Powderlites stage 2 with Hurricane upgrade fuel system, L/C pistons, STM clutched Renegade running 24lbs boost. Traded wins with the big A/C. The Big A/C won 1 time by 3 then the ski doo one 1 time by 1 lenght. I was in that race running a done up stock Z1 Turbo and ate Snow chunks the whole way, but seen both finishes first hand.
My personnel built yamaha attak running 18-19lbs boost would leave the first ski doo and my dads sled and put 3-5 lengths on them, and the A/C put 1-2 on me. I did not race the 2nd ski doo.
All in all, these sled done right are fast!!! It all depends on what is done and if everything works in unison!!!
it is just great to see the other brands be able to compete with the big bad yamaha now, Maybe the yamaha is not as big and bad as it used to be??

Sounds like you were pretty close if you were running only 18-19 pounds of boost compared to what they were running.

Stage 2 is what he got and he has a couple FFP kits as well.
(Don,t forget your turbo kit on a nytro is rear mount so in a drag race your allready at a huge disadvantedge!!!!)
Turk Rear mount from PowderLites can be made to be very quick off the line.
How many turbo sleds show up to these races??
Years ago we counted 70 turbo sleds for Yamaha fest so we know who has what with turbos out here and our shop has both which I ride and have been running against each other since last year.
What are you riding Turk?
You seem a little bent outta shape over a Yellow turbo sled??
It's all fun and I tell it the way it happens and not real serious about winning.

I was right there with the big A/C, but my sled had dropped and rolled Avid chaincase, 10 tooth drivers suspension, expert x fully sucked down and lowered, STM rage 8 clutch and bearcat secondary, 144 cobra, and the list goes on..it took all that and they still would get me...all while being 100% stock chassis, suspension
one race I went up to 20-21lbs boost and he beat me by a ski tip.
In the right hands those ski doos and arctics are no joke.

In all fairness AJ , one more tuning session with the STM clutching on yours the outcome would have been entirely different, we were grossly geared way to high and your belt grab was eating the belts in two runs. Our learning curve on the STM,s was just beginning, I truly believe that cat was going to get eaten up had we had just one more tuning session. but that's racin , shoulda coulda woulda.

Thanks

I had the big Bear cat STM secondary clutch as well, so I geared down even more with that combo. I was running 24-42 and was going to go lower to 22-42, with out the big secondary the 24-42 would have been good. This was all for 1000' snow race.

Sounds to me like it is a tuners dual rather than a brand battle!

Never talked about YOUR sled Dave, I know what happened, you also know what happened to mine.
And yes its the same one you think about.
and yes if long sled can run full boost, I would bet this is gonna be extremely good match

longsled said:Muloth was one of the the yamy guy that did'nt choke for the Roberval world series ice drag, event if, like me, never went on ice before.
a lots of guy always told how fast they are, and when the race time come, they always have other things to do..........
the fastest sled for a specific day is the one that win the race, not the fastest one in a garage....
Longsled what can you do except work on your engine..........when i have race against you(you are the fastest doo turbo may be )but you are far behind me...me compare to you make race when i have time, run my corvette now, boat a bit later and not have only race in my head...........bring your little sled next year i willgo on ice just for you in trailmax class and more.....and you know what the z-1 turbo strong in montreal and more than you
but you work hard and you can beat the best but begin to beat the best!and talk after for now you are slow....
