I'm curious if anyone has heard of any non tuned engine failures to date on the 998?
Again non tuned failures.
I haven't heard of any yet over 2 seasons.

Wasn't there one that blew the oil tank seal and went down?

Hod one in our area that was from a hard hit to the bottom of the oil tank(rock) and it cracked the oil tank badly and the oil leaked out and engine went down. Self induced. Insurance covered it as an accident thankfully for him.

Hit a buried log with one of my 2003 rx1''s and it busted the sump, lost the oil, and siezed. Only damage was main bearings, crank could be polished, and bottom of rods were a little blue, but we had it all replaced anyway. Still out there today running like a bear. Had a couple the first season go down from running lean from running big free flowing exhausts/straight pipes with no tunes, no added fuel to compensate. Aside from that back in the first season, I havent seen any posted on any of the many forums and pages here or elsewhere last season that went down that were "stock" tune

This is a common subject in 2 stroke forums, as they are littered with blown engines. Best thing about 4 stroke is reliability/longevity, and the next best thing is a Turbo 4s, as they can be wick'd up and still be Ultra reliable.

How many newer car/trucks on the road have engine failures?
Its the new-ish (EPA) 2s engines that fail, where the older dirty 2s would last.
