Engine failures

Exactly....that 900 ace is a weakling compared to the way the 998 is built! The 998 is heavy duty from top to bottom...and is specifically made for this turbo sled application.

The 900 ace was an economical option in their line up....the 998 was purpose built to be the most powerful production snowmobile engine ever built/in the history of the sport...I think that’s enough said right there.

They were both my wife's cars. I'm 63 YO and these are the only engine failures in a car we have ever had since my first car in 1973.

Hey I’m just teasing. Seriously though, they gave you a brand new caddy for a blown motor? That’s incredible.

Buddy just has his valves checked and has 14000 miles on his and 12000 boosted. They were still within spec and he was really surprised at how clean everything looked. Just like new. There is something to be said about building something for turbo charging. The old suzuki 1100T was stellar as well and it was also purpose built. Cheers

The new 900t ACE has been updated though. Its definitely not the same base engine as the last few season ace900. Rotax Beefed it up some and it should be a solid performer. I dont think it will ever be able to make big reliable HP, but 200 should be easy to get to while keeping the reliability up. Im following it closely. Biggest thing for me with the little doo turbo will be the iTC, and how well they can get that dialed in. It takes some getting used to for most. I believe that sled will quickly become BRP's most popular sled, and easily surpass their 850 2s as it will make more power with a simple tune. Either way it will be a nice "smaller" turbo that will fit into that 2s HP range. Should be a fun sled to watch and see where tuners take it over the next season or two. Probably be twice as many aftermarket tuners coming out with goodies for it.

Well if you find that incredible the Caddy they gave me had an issue with mold in the AC. After replacing everything in the AC twice they gave me another brand new Caddy after 30 thousand miles. By the time we took delivery of the third Caddy our original loan was paid in full and we had no car payments on a brand new 2015 Caddy. We started out with a 2013 Cadillac and ended up with a 2015 Cadillac. We just traded in the 2015 Caddy in on a brand new 2019 C7 Corvette.

Get her a Lexus! They are very Yammy-like...LOL!

ace 900 weighs in at 544lbs compare to the 600lbs winder for now(2020)

I guess my spec sheet is incorrect then...

I lost 35 lbs off my sled, this should gain me some mph, I just got to remember not to eat three sandwiches for lunch, just one. It took a year to lose this weight.

Good for you! Been a 3 year battle for me as well. I’m down around 60. Some days I think it would be way easier to buy lightweight parts! Ha

Back on track... Though my circle is small I have not heard or read about a stock Sidewinder engine failure.

It is incorrect. My Sidewinder said it was 582 lbs dry and I know it was well over 600 lbs. They are heavy pigs for sure but they do ride and handle like a much lighter sled.

Calling this sled a "heavy pig" is mean & insensitive.
"Gravitationally Challenged" is a more appropriate term.

C'mon Joe, you know Yamaha guys are very sensitive about their sled's weight.
