Took my Rx-1 out for the seasons first ride. It was back firing at low speed ,seemed to run fine at speed. Stopped and noticed the usual steam was blue(smoke). Noticed right side graphite exaust cover was melting away. Grabbed seat and it gave way in rear as it was also melting. It believe it would have burned if we had not started to throw snow on it. Way hot! Still can't believe it. Any ideas?

The back firing is excess gas in the muffler which causes extrem heat and you could burn your sled down . You need to service the carbs befor you go riding again :ORC

Yup, you are lucky to not have burnt the sled down. You must have a stuck float or something running raw fuel into the muffler. Guys have lost their sleds to that fate. Get it fixed before you even fire it up again.

There could be (probably is) a fouled spark plug. Not saying that the carbs are perfect (in fact, likely cause of spark plug fouling is bad carb), point is that for the heat to be generated in the pipe, there actually needs to be unburned gas and OXYGEN in there, and you'll only have both if one of the plugs is fouled.
Another possibility is that the TORS is acting up... when TORS activates, it cuts the ignition and may dump raw fuel into the pipe. I don't consider this one as likely as a bad plug, but it is definitely something to look at.
This is something that we have heard of happening before... at least one sled has burned to the ground because of this. Good thing you caught it before it caught you.
