I am decideing between the two skids. I need opinions from people who have experience in one or the other or preferably both. I am an aggressive trail rider 90% of the time. I race lakes 10%. Top end is not the first priority. Reliability, control and comfort in the order. The latest reports on the M-10 reliability has got me concerned. I also hear the Expert X is a great deal easier to dial in. The Expert X is about $1,000.00 cheaper than what I picked out on the M-10. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to thank Matt from the Speedshop for his input. I will let you know his opinions in a later post.

I had a Expert X on my 03 Rx1 and I have riden M10's. The M10 ride is better. The expert is the best for drag racing and speed, but the M10 provides a better ride. I think they are both reliable.

I have seen the expert x comletely fall apart from abuse as well as the proaction......I like the M10 for trail riding and was really dissapointed in the ride quality on the expert x ....but they both have their downfall....

My x-pert skid had catastrophic failure at 900 miles on my RX-1. Holeshot & small bumps are much better but big bumps still hurt.

I saw the posting on the M-10 problems... I have about 10k on my M-10's with no problems yet, but I did replace the bearings on the one that had 6k on it over the summer. 1 of the bearings was starting to go, not bad in my book.

Dana, Keith is right. Buy the M-10, you wouldn't be sorry. Not everyone is having problems with their M-10. Dave, who has the Polaris that rode with us the first time we rode together has had 2 M-10's, and no problems. But the way, 4" of fresh powder fell today as I was riding, put 160 miles on our local trails, and they were awsome.

I'm coming off an 02 xc800 w/ the M-10. I loved the ride. 4000 miles and I changed 2 idler wheels, but only because ice had ripped up the rubber....not bearing failure. I found mine reliable. The only shortcomings I can find are poor wieght transfer for drag racing and the occasional bottoming on the long, high speed woops. But mine was the stock Polaris M-10. Fast has a "M Valve" update that is supposed to help. I'm 280lbs, so I would expect it to bottom at times. Anyways, if you don't bottom occasionally, you're probably set up too stiff.

The M-valve does fix the long swoopy things, Fast calls them G-bumps. I have m-valve, and have sold several with and without, it works :!:

 Dana powerhaulic is right you asked this question before and just do it.Everyone is telling you to do it from what you want and you are explaining it to them what you want. You did have the chance to take many m/10's for a ride so maybe next year you should, thats the only way you will find out. Ask power to let me take his sled for a ride so I can tell you what to do, I think that is the only way you will know and I will tell you how that turbo is while I'm trying to feel the ride on it.

Thanks guys for all the information on this site and on the phone. I just thought it would be easier to spend my time researching and getting opinions before putting down the money. I have decided. HRD, you had better come up with something else next year or all you will see are my tail lights. BBW, it is very tempting to loadup and drive out to you this week. Again, thank you for all of your valuable input. Have a great summer. Dana.

I have a question for Powerhaulic. Other than reliability issue, is there any other reason to choose the Ohlins over the Fox? The reason I ask is that the M valve mod replaces the rear shock piston and valve stack with one from Fast which is probably identical to an M valve Fox. I have a Fox M10 in a V Max 4 and it has been completely reliable since having the M valve mod and high quality Tech Syn O rings and seals installed after the first season. Ohlins shocks have a good reputation for being high quality but they also seem to have stiff valving geared more toward racing than comfort. I have seen them for sale more than once in the classified section and I think overly stiff valving may be the reason. I would hate to spend the extra money for the M10 Ohlins and find that it rode stiff.
