RX FUN said:Maybe now would be a good time to discuss the advantages of intercooling!!!
There is one advantage to intercool
1.you make can make more HP per pound of boost.
Disadvantages
1. Weight
2. Increased lag
3. throttle response.
4. keeping a seal on the carbs and the inter-cooler
5. In the event you roll your sled and the fuel pump doesn't shut off many people have filled the inter-cooler with fuel.
Advantage to not inter-cooling with an air to air cooler with a draw through
1. less weigh
2. More room to work under the hood
3. You can add Water injection or NOS injection before the carbs to naturally cool the charge
4. Simplicity
What people don't understand about the RX-1 is the motor itself is the limiting factor on total power not the design of the turbo system. The RX-1 Motor is capable of about 650HP before the crank will go. 650hp can be created by just boost or a combination of boost and NOS. It is true a blown through inter-cooled sled will make more power then a Draw through nonintercooled sled will. The way you get around this is increasing the size of the Turbo charger itself. The same can be said about a super charger. Because it takes power to make power the only way you can make equal power to a turbo with an SC is to increase the size of the SC.
In recent Dyno testing LP has proved this fact. The Trail LP kit was able to make about 300 hp and that was it. Buy simply increasing the size of the turbo and adjusting the size of the Carb LP was able to make about 60 HP more at an equal boost level. By going to a bigger carb and turbo LP is also able to run higher boost levels then the trail kit can which also increase the power levels.

Sorry if I started a peeing match, was just looking for feedback, its a lot of$$$ to spend on a turbo and its nice to hear about their positive and negative qualties from people who actually run them, not the Companies selling them who just tell u what u want to hear.

With all the bickering going on I lost track of who wanted to know what. For what it's worth to who ever wanted to know about the bender unit. My brother and I both run one, his on a RX-1 and mine on a RS Vector. We are both very happy and do nothing but boondocking and hill climbing. The only thing a trails good for is... well towing your buddies sled out. Lag is not an issue on the RX-1 but is on mine. However, I'm still playing with the clutching tryig to find what will work for my style. As far as the used bender unit goes make sure it is a stage II not a stage I unit. And yes bender does use a waste gate and although the old units didn't come with a BOV, I believe their new ones will. Unless you intend to drag race I do not see where any brand's turbo lag or lack thereof, will pose any problem under normal riding conditions. Personally I chose the rear mount for 2 main reasons. 1. Heat under the hood (front mount - bad, rear mount - good) 2. Loss of fuel capacity (I ride 100+ miles a day with he majority of the time spent hill climbing in deep powder, I just was not willing to sacrifice 1.5 - 2 gallons of fuel capacity in my tank to accomodate the front mount)
Edit: I personally think the pitot tube used on the bender system is great. It allows for fine tuning your air/fuel mixture in a matter of seconds. Especially nice for mountain riders. May not be that advantageous to a flat lander though.
