First Impressions - SR-Vipers

I'd would agree that the quality won't be there. That said CATs customer service is much better then YAM at resolving issues. So to me if i'm gonna have problems i'm gonna buy the CAT turbo, same sled, more power, and way better customer service!....no brainer

Give it a chance before you bash it! so much hate going on

Yamaha has WANTED us to hate Cat for decades! Now they want us to ride one just because they throw one of their engines in it? As I wrote on Sled Talk, that's downright insulting to true Yamaha loyalists, especially lifelong fans. For the fence-jumpers out there who buy a different make every sled, no big deal. For true Yamaha fans, this is a HUGE deal and in nothing short of insulting to ask us jump onboard now.

PERFECT Took the words right out of my mouth.

Imo this sled looks very promising.
I am surprised Yamaha is not offering the Viper and Viper ltx with blue highlights rather than just the 1 color red option .

yeah, I wish it came with your choice of tunnel and plastic colors. I really like the black tunnel, but i'd want blue plastics. I know others have mentioned they like the red, but want a white tunnel.

doesnt make a lot of sense to me why they cant do this, swap plastics, seat, and ski loops at the dealer and there ya go.

You,ve got to be kidding. Go on HCS, and ask the guys there with ALL the problems how well Cats customer service has been treating them for the last couple of years.
I,ve owned an Apex for 3 years, and have never needed to go to my dealer, let alone Yamahas customer service. NOT EVEN CLOSE. :yam:

Went to the demo ride today guys. They only had the 129 and theXTX (I forgot the length) skid - no 137. Ride was short, but the proverbial SWEET! I know this probably sounds like the marketing dept has paid me off, but I really liked it. For those of you not from the area, we had about 6 inches of fresh on the ground today, so it was also an opportunity feel the power of the sled in something other than hardpack. Of course, the XTX hooked up a little better but I have to say I liked the 129 too. As a sit down sled, it's comfortable and the ride feels plush. Stand up riding is also very comfortable ... the ergonomics are pretty darn good, but for reference you should know I'm 5'-8", 185 lbs with gear on. Never really had enough room to open the sled up for a long stretch, but the acceleration is very good. I couldn't get the sled to lift the skis but again, we were on soft fresh snow with icy hardpack underneath. I was able to easily blip the throttle and lift the front end coming off some the driveway crossing while ditch riding a portion of the trail. The sled pushed a bit in the corners, but the snow was loose so it was to be expected. I know this is not much of ride report - the demo was short as there were groups lined up to ride and they didn't want us to stray to far, but the sled is FUN! It put a big grin on my mug.

I briefly chatted with one of the Yammie boys after the ride and asked a little more about the sled. Can tell you the ECU is Cat's (the rep said they had re-flashed them 4 times already). As is the track shaft and drivers. I asked again about Cat using their clutches - The Yammie rep didn't think it was likely that they (CAT) would use their clutching, so this contradicts what I heard previously. Guess we'll have to see what Cat's version looks like. Sounds like it will be very similar. I still have reservations about the durability of the skeleton, but the heart of this sled is all Yamaha!

thanks for the feedback!

I was almost there myself. However, Im too f--king irate with Waldoch right now and I woulda just had a blow up with their parts department so I figured it was better if I didnt go.

I here ya DF. I've ordered parts there that I later learned had been discontinued ... nobody at Waldoch even bothered to call me. A couple weeks later I called to ask about the status of my order, and that's when they leveled with me.

The season is soooo short as it is ... I would rather they let me know early on so I could at least have done something to resolve the situation.

Okay, rant over.

The demo rides are happening again tomorrow (same place) from 9 to 4. Highly recommend it if you can make it.

So any numbers HP? Weight? What is your previous sled? A Nytro is it comparable speed wise? Or faster.

i feel like those questions have been asked at least 100 times in as many different threads.

they havent released those numbers yet. For the final production machines they are shootin for 20 lbs lighter than a nytro, and it will supposedly have a bit less peak HP due to exhaust.

Thanks DF.

Murse:
Current sled is a Phazer, but I've ridden the Nytro lots of times ... The Viper is comparable to the Nytro, maybe slightly tamer.
