Thank you!
Mooseman said:For the starter, there is no other bolt. It just pulls out. BTW, be sure you drain the oil first. You'll find out why.
Haha yes I did find out why... I had a surprise when I figured out to wiggle it and pull then bloop oil starts pouring out..
I'll be uploading pictures shortly of the state of the starter to get your guys opinion.. But I can only find 1 green line on the starter...
Also the one bolt was completely out while the other is still in there..
My main question is what do I line up the green line with? (I thought there was supposed to be 2)
Do you think this was my problem being that only ONE bolt was totally out?
Bolt out

Green Line

Other side with no green line

The green line should be lined up with the 2 marks on the starter.
Take a look at the 3rd last post.

Okay so it should look just like this when I go to tighten the bolts back up?

(Green Line matched up with the TWO lines on the starter..)

That is correct but you should clean the bolt threads and use red Loctite or Permatex to prevent them from backing out again.

And test the starter before putting everything back together.

In order to test the starter I first have to do the following,
Loctite and clean starter up like mooseman said.
Put the starter back on.
Drain the engine oil
Then refill with new oil correct?
The reason why I am asking all the question is because this is my first time having the sled this torn apart..

You can just hook up a battery to it to make sure it works.

You don't need to further drain the oil as that advice was to prevent the oil in the face when you pulled it out. You can first try to test it with the battery before putting it back in the engine. If it spins fine, bolt it back in the engine. But before you put the rent end back on, test the starter to see if it can in fact spin the engine under load. Hook up the battery and just short the two posts on the solenoid. I don't recommend actually starting it with the key while apart like this. If she turns over OK, bolt everything back up and ride!
Edit: oh yeah, don't forget to top off the oil,

So all I have to do is put back on the two black wires and try starting the motor?

Once I test the starter when its is NOT bolted back on, and it works, then i bolt it back on and then test it again correct?
Do I need to refill my oil tank before I test it when it is bolted back on? Because when I took off the oil hose all of my oil drained out of my tank..
Also what type of oil and how much do you recommend putting in?

While it's out, test it by putting the negative to the body of the starter and positive to the terminal on the starter, which will tell you that it at least spins freely. Then install it. Just for a quick cranking test without starting it you don't need to fill it with oil, just in case you need to pull the starter out again.
As for what type of oil, (putting on fire proof suit) I use Mobil 1 0w40 European formula. It's a good synthetic oil with a good additives package and has been proven. The hypochondriacs here will say to use only Yamalube because blah, blah, blah. These engines are so bulletproof that you could probably run them on just about any oil of the proper weight. Manual says 0w30. Synthetic is better and makes it easier for starting in cold weather.

Test it on the bench first, do not use the sleds wiring, if it works good then install it back on and try it.

Don't forget to NOT USE THE KEY when you try it when installed while it's low on oil. Just short the solenoid terminals to crank the engine. I just want to be clear on that point.

Okay thanks for the responses guys. I very much appreciate all of this!!!
I tested it on the bench. Starter turns! I just loctite the bolts into place now.
I will be installing the starter back on to the phazer.
Just so I understand clearly..
1.)I install the starter.
2.)Hook up the two negatives going to it again.
3.)Hook up the battery.
4.)Turn the key so the computer module comes on <---- This is the step I am unclear about??
5.)Then I jump the solenoid with a pair of bare pliers. WITHOUT turning the key to turn the sled over (Last time I did this I couldn't touch it very long as it sparked everywhere)
Let me know if this is the correct steps to doing it.
Edit: Thanks for the tip with the oil, I had some extra Amsoil SAW 0W-40 Synthetic laying around so I'll use that...

I didn't turn the key at all. The key is actually off so I couldn't do that anyways..
I installed the starter, hooked up the battery. And touch the terminals to jump it and it sparked everywhere and the starter make the sound like it was turning the sled over!!!

So I'm at the point where I gotta put the airbox back on..
Quick question ..
The highlighted hose in orange. Where does that connect to? Or does it just hang there? When I took it off it just was there it didn't come off anything.

Also another question..
To fill the sled with oil. I fill it where I take the dipstick out correct? There is no special area that needs to be filled by?
(I didn't drain the entire engine oil like you said i didn't have to mooseman, the oil that is out of the sled is from the oil tank and the oil when I took off the starter.)
Thanks alot guys for all your help!
