Yes you have to take the battery bracket out. The pic is to illistrate that in order to get the battery bracket out you must take the lead off the starter and unplug the other lead going over the top of the bracket. Look at the left side of the bracket when facing the rear of the sled you will see the two wires i'm talking about. I thought I would be able to manuever the bracket around with out taking them off. No way!!!

Here's some pictures.
1. Remove the two 12mm bolts holding the battery bracket on the left and right side of the delta box.
2. Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the ECU mount to the battery bracket.
3. Remove the two 12mm bolts holding the battery bracket on the steering pivot down below the ECU mount.
4. Remove the two wire loom ties. One is at the top on the chaincase side of the battery bracket. The other is at the bottom on the chaincase side of the battery bracket.
5. Slide the starter relays off the chaincase side of the battery bracket and let them hang loose.
6. Take the clutch side of the battery bracket and grab hold of the wire harness on that side. Pull the harness up and jimmy the battery bracket out on the clutch side.
7. Now that you have the clutch side out simply rotate the clutch side of the bracket towards the chaincase side and it will all come out smoothly.
8. Change the oil filter and resintall all brackets!!

Yamaha has got to come up with a better oil filter access design. With the three cylinder RS sleds, you can access the oil filter via the access panel on the bottom of the sled.

I agree WFO, it would make perfect sense to have a oil filter hatch

srxspec,
So you feel you don't need to remove the 10mm nut off the starter and move the starter cable aside and the wire with the little white connector in the pic? Then it's very easy to just lift the bracket straight up with alittle manuevering around the cables on the clutch side. Thanks for the good pics i'm sure this thread will help people the first time they change oil. Ya just gotta do it once to get the hang of it. I used some mothers and polished all the aluminmum while it was apart, what a waste of time!!! Once put back together I couldn't see anything I had shined. LOL

rhoag, I have yet to disconnect any wires and I've had 3 sleds apart. I was able to move the wire harness far enough up and out of the way to slide the clutch side of the bracket by. After that I simply rotated it towards the chaincase side and slid it out. I'll try to take a picture of what I did this weekend!

The complexity of changing the oil filter on the Attak is why Ulmer needs to make his oil filter relocate kit again!!!!!!!!!!

get rid of the stock bow and put K&N filters on it. I left the box lid in place and made a braket out of the rubber strap on the front to hold it in place. It has a screw with a wingnut for fast detachment from the lid. You pull the hood off, lift off the air box lid and never touch the headlight assembly again.
I also got tired of replacing the headlight assembly and dash parts when I laid it over in the snow (or girlfriend) so I deleted the metal bolts on each side of the pod and found plastic push pins that shear off before the plastic breaks. The pod sits on 2 prongs that secure it the bolts only keep it from sliding off the prongs.
